Just  to  report  continued  excellent  service  from  Tower Models  Blackpool, with whom  I have dealt for 30 years!!,  despite  the  problems which  they were encountering in the  aftermath of   the  gales in  the  North  West,

An order  I placed  Yesterday  13/2/2014  at  around  2-30 pm   was  delivered to me  this  morning 14/2/2014  at  8-00 AM

Placed my first order with a helpful gentleman by phone Saturday afternoon which arrived undamaged and as promised tuesday morning, had text with 1 hours notice of delivery. Good prices on Heljan O gauge, pre-ordered class 25 too, just need to build the layout now!!

When I modelled in O Gauge I had several locos including resprays from Tower Models.

Their service was always excellent, very good communication and fast delivery.

Placed another O gauge order for peco points (each £8.49 cheaper than my nearest model shop) and one of Mr Lionheart's lovely tank wagons, arrived by Interlink next day, accurate delivery time advised by text, seem to have slightly underestimated the space needed for my layout though.. Preordered a Heljan warship too !!

Excellent service

Having  been  a  Tower  Models customer   since   just  after  they opened  Many Years  Ago! , Also in the  80s  when  I  did  a 'proper' full time  job  my territory  sometimes  included  Blackpool,  so  after an hour  o  so  sitting  on  the Beach I would  found in Tower Models,  many an 0 Gauge loco  would  find  it  way from there  back to Disley  or later  Wales when we  moved!!

My advice  for  anyone buying  0 Gauge, Gauge 1  or even 0n30  is  to check  them   out first!   service has  always been  excellent, never  had  a  problem with products  or  service  or  price!.

I think for a short while in the 1990s Blackpool had 4 model railway outlets! Aside from tower models there was the beatties in hounds hill shopping centre and two other model shops a few doors from each other. One a secondhand only specialist and the other sold new and secondhand. Can’t remember the street name but it was only just out of the main area.

There was an n gauge shop down central drive but you are thinking of (I think) the 2 shops on Dickson road, was was run by a chap called Lance who did the new and second hand then a second hand shop further down and the bloke who ran it only had 1 leg and was in a wheelchair. No idea what the names of the shop were. (The first shop was opposite funny girls (maybe the odeon then) near north station and the other further down the road.

There was Palatine Model Rail who specialised in US prototype, but I don't remember the address after all this time — I bought from them mail-order, but never actually visited the shop. I think the owner was called "Dave".

That’s right because it used to be on palatine road. The guy who had it at the end was called Lance but his dad had it before him so perhaps he was Dave.

That’s right. I remember the big guy in the wheelchair having dozens and dozens of subbuteo teams on shelves too! He used to do the swap meets in the area and I think had a shop in Manchester before Blackpool. I’d be surprised if he’s still about as he never looked in the best of health.  Was palatine model shop a different one then? I remember the name now you mention it from railway modeller advertisements. If it was around in the 90s that’s 5! Got to be a record for concurrently open shops in a town!

Yes Palatine model shop was opposite funny girls/ the odeon whereas the secondhand one was further down approx 200 yards give or take.

I started a new thread to see if any town can beat five in the modern era! In other words 80s onwards when model railways stopped being mainstream toy market.

Ordered a Heljan 31 just before Christmas, during the conversation Tower told me about problems with postal damage and the fixings for this particular model, asked me if it was OK to repack the model before sending.  Package arrived 2 days later, loco is in perfect condition with extra foam inserts all around it.  That's what I call good practical customer service, very well done to Tower Models.

According to Blackpool gazette (and Roger has provided a statement) tower models are going to have to move to accommodate the new campus for Blackpool and the fylde college. This is being funded by the new levelling up money. Obviously this only broke yesterday. Good luck to Roger and all involved.

I spent a small fortune at Palatine. They sold everything GB and US. Lance ran the shop but I think his dad Dave owned it. It was on Palatine Road then moved to Dickson Road then soon after it closed. The other shop on Dickson Road also moved afterwards to Thornton (or maybe the other way round and moved to Blackpool after being in Thornton) just round the corner from where I lived so guess where else all my cash went!
Palatine was always busy before the move then it died...no parking outside the shop. Model shops need parking as they are places you specifically visit, not just call in while shopping elsewhere and if you have to park miles away or pay and display then you lose business. I hope Tower don't end up doing the same although their current premises is in a bit of a rough area at least it has street parking outside and in the surrounding streets. The better areas tend to be pedestrianised or have yellow lines everywhere.

I'm a regular viewer on the Youtube 'Walk on the Wild Side' videos, (and I also think of Blackpool as my 2nd home). and have been wondering what the future would be for Tower. There has been considerable demolition & rebuilding in the area for quite a while.
