Some travel information for those intending to travel by train, and intending to go via the Medway Valley line from Paddock Wood to Strood.  The line will be closed ALL WEEKEND, with replacement buses taking their places.

Colin

Also due to engineering works, on Saturday, there will be a replacement bus service between Canterbury East & Faversham. On Sunday there are no trains between Sittingbourne & Dover Priory, Herne Bay or Sheerness-on-Sea.

OK, so the car park is going to be full!

The last time I went to the show when it was at the Leisure Centre, a poor old boy who was sitting in one of the spectator chairs sneezed out loud and let fly an enormous liquid fart. Our cries of laughter (hidden behind one of the stands) were only interrupted when the fire alarm suddenly activated.

Nice layouts, friendly people, too many box shifters, too many bookstalls, too many photo stands; not enough tools, materials etc stands. Non, absolutely non, of those fine layouts could have been built if they were restricted in their supplies to the traders at the show. I went with £100 in my wallet but I spent less than £5!

I thought last year was good enough to go again, but it's a long way from Harrow and I'll think twice before I go again. Sorry!

I agree that it was one of the best Chatham shows, although I had seen about 8 of the layouts before - and on several occasions, too. However, they were all of high quality and well worth another view! Not sure I'd condemn all the of the trade there - I didn't think the spread was too bad and there were several stands selling tools and other supplies.

I'll certainly try to go ahead.

I have just got back (sorry no photos). A good show, agree with the comment that there could have been some more tool and raw material traders there.

But it looked like the number of punters was down though. Something to do with the World Cup perhaps?

I was 2nd mate on Prospect Wharf today.

I think that this was a very well organised show and had a good balance of layouts.

There was even a couple from the Benelux countries. (Along with their great sense of humour).

The break down when the show ended was not as manic as at most shows and the parking to load up was done in a very organised manner, so nobody was getting blocked in.

All round a very good show.

Thankyou Chatham MRC.

Thanks to all who attended the show this weekend, whether exhibiting, trading, demonstrating, raising funds for their society or MOST IMPORTANTLY, visiting our show. We are very proud, and have had a lot of good feedback over the last 2 days. We look forward to seeing some old and new faces at our show on 13 & 14th June 2015 at the same venue in Medway Park Leisure Centre, Mill Road, Gillingham, Kent. ME7 1HF.  :pleasantry:

Nope, all down to the venue and catering. I didn't go this year as there seemed to be fewer traders than in the past, coupled with the catering and parking problems last year we decided to give it a miss this year.

I enjoyed the show, it was hot and sweaty but some nice layouts were on show, none of which I'd seen before, and I personally found the mix of stalls and layouts worked well.  I certainly enjoyed it more than the last Warley show I visited.

There was a slight irony that Dinas Mawddwy was an exhibit, as I had driven through the real village a couple of days before en-route from Fairbourne to visit Bescotbeast in Sussex to do shunting and to attend the show.  Living in Wales it was nice to try out some Southern and SouthEastern milkfloats instead of the usual diet of Arriva 158s, but I have to say Gillingham, with all due apologies to anyone who lives there, is not my idea of a leisure destination.

Also kudos to the Newhaven Town booking office clerk who worked out a Newhaven + 6 Zone Travelcard and a day return from Zone 6 to Gillingham was £5 cheaper than a through fare.  As I said to him, no ticket machine or internet sales outlet would come up with that option and is why we should fight as much as possible closing ticket offices.  Of course, the TOCs would rather have inflexible internet and ticket machine sales as it gets them more money, but a good ticket office clerk can generate priceless goodwill if he can use his knowledge and come up with something else even if it only saves a few quid.

I agree with Andy a good show, well organised and with the exhibitors well looked after. It was great meeting  with some modellers from mainland Europe and chatting about differences between us in the hobby.  I picked up some useful bits when on my breaks from operating.

Thaks Chatham MRC.

Just recovering from exhibiting at the Chatham show. I think that I have attended most of the previous shows and this one was certainly as good as any that have good before. Very good selection of layouts, although I did not really get a chance to have a look at all of them. A reasonable range of trade and society stands, perhaps not so many specialist traders, but it was not intended to be a fine scale show. All in all first class. Only one gripe, I wish that they would invest in a new pack of tea bags for the exhibitors teas.

This was my first visit to this show and I was generally impressed. I had already seen a couple of the layouts before, Hawkhurst (Southwark MRC) and Happisburgh (I'm an MRC member). The standout layouts for me were Salmon Pastures as it is visually close to the layout I have in my mind and in my sketch book that I would love to build and Palmerston Road by Wimbledon MRC. I sat myself in front of this layout and let the operators entertain with shed movements, pick up freights and through trains on the main line and it didn't disappoint. Itreally was very good and I found that inbetween the through trains you could actually enjoy the model making scenes and detail. Really excellent. On the trade stands, I thought a lot of it was over priced and very expensive and I didn't see any bargains or deals and it was Sunday at the end of the day.

I have to agree with Paul, catering is dire. But then it is at most model railway shows.

A walk into town for a pub lunch was disappointing, but we found a great café that did a roast chicken with all the trimmings for £5.50.
