Peak Photos and Memories

Recommended Posts

A couple more from the 70's/80's now. Both taken at or near Godnow Bridge on the line between Doncaster and Scunthorpe, it's near to crowle for those who don't know.

45033 complete with tinsley snail, heads towards scunthorpe and the Gunhouse bank which it will drag it's load of steel empties up, after enduring the 20mph speed restriction at Keadby swing bridge.

Here's 45037 on a similar working, note the repainted sign for the old GCR. I doubt that's still there.

I would like to have seen a 45 go across Trowse swing bridge on the approach to Norwich! When I was with RCE Anglia they were 'banned' - whether this was official or not I am not certain.

Oh dear, that makes this photo from Peterborough in Feb 1985 more interesting than I first thought.

I have always assumed it was a Birmingham to Norwich working. Maybe 45149 did come off the train at March, because I don't remember a loco change at Peterborough, or I would have a photo of the replacement.

Great Memories of these classes especially on trips to the West Country, York and Tinsley, just found this topic, a bit of a rare sight the Wigan area in the '70's & '80's but we did get the odd Sunday Trans-Pennine diversions across Ince Moss.

Reddish Depot.1981.

Ince moss Wigan. 1982

Was a real shock and a nice surprise to see this peak in the shed at SP. in 1982.

Scrapped by Vic Berry in the 1980s, like many of the others

After its brief moment in the spotlight in 1984, of course.

46 045 was the first TOPS Numbered loco I ever saw (I think it was renumbered 4 months before) - I was so impressed, I wasted another photo on the number itself...:

Interesting, the black cab window surround on 45104. One-off, or were others treated too?

I remember seeing quite a few namers which got that window surround treatment and White paint etc in their last days. Think it was mainly a Tinsley depot done thing?

Here is a photo I took around 1962 at Carlisle Kingmoor shed with my Box Brownie camera. The quality is not excellent but it shows two peaks, one with, one without a yellow panel with an English Electric Type 1 between them

When I first looked at this, my initial thought was that it could be a candidate for the "when the real thing looks like a model" thread.

Does anyone else see this, or is it just me?

Been scanning my old slides and found this. As I rarely made notes I have no idea when or where except it will be early-mid 1980's. Zooming in it looks like 45126 at the front and 45125 behind?

Might it be Derby?

Is it York after the shed passed to the NRM

Most of my photos I can recall where they were taken if not the date etc but this one has stumped me. I spent most of my time gricing out of Reading but I doubt there would be 2 Peaks parked up there in the mid-80's? Wherever it is looks flat as there are no hills etc behind the terrace houses. I think I have more photos from the same location in my collection, will dig them out as they may give more clues.

I don't recall going to Derby during my teens. Wen through York plenty of times and did stay there once or twice so possible.

Not sure it helps but these pics were taken at the same location:

A cheeky stab in the dark would say it was heading to Newcastle
