In April 1978 46024 was involved in a minor collision at Hereford and although the damage was not considerable, repair was denied and 46024 was withdrawn in April 1978. It was broken up by Derby Works during October 1978. D3 (44003), Entered Traffic 9/59, Withdrawn 7/76, Broken Up 8/76 Holding fourth spot for the shortest service life at 16 years, 10 months is the first to be withdrawn D3 (44003) Skiddaw. In 1962 following a short career as passenger locomotives generally on West Coast Main Line duties the ten Pilot series locomotives were allocated to Toton for freight traffic in the East Midlands and had there steam heating boilers removed.. w124bob Posted November 5, 2020 Share Posted November 5, 2020 (edited) D177 again this time at Manchester Victoria along with Brush type 4 1536 on the 24/05/69, another location that had a long association with the Peaks to the end. https://tinyurl.com/yyohdyck . Both Gateshead locos, D177 never moved and 1536 drifted around the ER before going to Gateshead in early '69 then 18 months at Immingham before returning to stay at Gateshead fro the rest of it's career(according to brdatabase). The day is drawing to a close here as 45104 takes the 1700 Euston - Sheffield through Ledburn at some speed. Thats 45104, 45110, 45111, 45114 45118, 45130, 45131, 45134, 45138, 45145 and 45149! 11 peaks all at Euston that July day! Presumably a different day to your pic, as you don't have that one listed but definitely around 1982. The odd Peak used to turn up at Paddington in the same period, usually with Saltley, Bristol or Cardiff men in the chair, and occasionally one of them would come onto Old Oak for fuel which caused quite a stir. Some of the peaks went via Nuneaton (some changing to electric) others via Bedford - Bletchley that July saturday. Bletchley men i believe were involved on some turns and for some time afterwards there were rumours of 100 mph plus peaks running Bletchley - Watford!!! Another phot from the day 45145 with the diverted 0800 Sheffield - Euston at Leighton Buzzard again on Saturday July 3rd 1982. It would spend the first half of its career predominantly on the old Midland Railway lines being allocated to Nottingham, Toton and Holbeck. In 1971 a major fleet re-organisation occurred and 46003 was part of a batch of class 46 locomotives transferred to Bristol Bath Road as replacements for the then rapidly disappearing diesel-hydraulic fleet on the Western Region. This was followed by a transfer to Laira in November 1972. In the summer of 1978 it suffered a major bogie fire and was sent to Derby Works for evaluation.
