Jack374
Tighte End Yard (DRS) ...Is a fictitional small yard with a 1-track depot and a 2-track fuelling point. There is also another track to store a loco. ATM, it as about 50% complete, and very soon I will be able to start the assembly process. The idea here is that it is a small (Hence the name) yard facilitating light maintenance and fuelling for deisels. It is my first 'proper' layout as my previous projects I lost interest in. It is based loosely on the symmetry of Tees Yard wagon repair (Here's a picture), and is a DRS depot because they are my favourite FOC, although a change of colour of the depot would mean it could be any company's yard. The baseboard is 6mm MDF with 5mm ply sides, and the fiddleyard will be attached over this for transport. It measures 30'' x 12'' (2'6'' x 1'). Everything (Except the locos!) is going to be scratchbuilt/kitbashed, as I never quite find the exact thing I want. Anyway..enough waffle...some pictures... Here's the baseboard with the hole for the inspection pit visible: The depot building. This is made of Plastikard with a corrugated Plastikard covering. It has had the trim added and will be painted DRS blue with Green trim (as per Kingmoor): I have painted the inside grey and fitted lighting. There will be a poseable door aswell (Lower picture under construction): The fuelling point is a Knightwing kit with a new canopy made of corrugated Plastikard and a new walkway (Chequer plate). There will also be lighting fitted: (Only just seen it's warped...oops! ) The inspection pit has lights fitted underneath with hole-punched Plastikard stuck on top: The turnouts are handbuilt, with a 3-way and a L/H together, and there will be another R/H one infront of the depot: This is the signal that will be at the throat: And finally, some locos posed on the layout/diorama at the mo...Enjoy! More updates to follow... Jack. Edited March 22, 2019 by Jack374 Thread title edited

sb67
Right up my street, I'd like to build something like this for my fleet of diesels that have nowhere to run at the moment. Dont think I could scratchbuild points like that though! Looking forward to seeing this develop. Steve.
Crisis Rail
Jack - not sure of your location - but DRS are throwing the doors open again at Crewe Gresty Bridge - might be just your thing? http://www.directrailservices.com/news-articles/2014/02/27/drs-charity-open-day-19th-july-2014/ Ian
Jack374
Thanks Ian, it definitely won't be ready for this year, but I may submit a form for next year's open day at Kingmoor Jack.

Jack374
Thanks Jaz & Welcome Elgan, makes me feel that it's not all a waste of time! Stat Rep............... Nothing at all has been done because of family plans / school / workbench / girls entering my life! I have glued a quarter of the cork down, but all will hopefully be down very soon...then let track laying commence! TFN... Jack.

Jack374
Hi, Thanks again everyone for the encouragement I need. Since I'm now on holiday, I can do some more....and to prove I'm doing something... The point work may get laid this week, but the cork is the main problem, so that'll be done by the end of this week. Jack.
rs4
So that's a new take on Fahrenheit 451 ? Don't burn, but glue the books shut and onto the base board ? ; ) Seriously though.... Good to have a diversion from revising, work, or life ! Have to hand it to you Jack, you are skilled and don't mind getting stuck in... Track work....buildings....you need an RHTT set now. Jack374
Haha thanks Nick, If you look closely, there is a piece of cling film between the books (a trick learnt from a Mr. Newbryford), so the books don't get stuck...and I do fancy having a go at an RHTT, but I haven't a penny spare... All the cork is glued down now, but I've just decided to add another point...if anyone wants I will do a step-by-step on how I do it...? Jack. Jack374
Hi, The turnout is nearly finished, so I'll upload a step-by-step guide this weekend on how I build them. It may not be the right way, but it's how I do it! The shed and 'pit are looking nice, but they're not connected to anything! And this is all the track layed ATM, under the bottles is the second turnout... All the track is/will be glued down with the wood glue in the pic. Nothing will be done this weekend, and progress will be slower from here, but I've been encouraged to do some more, so there will be steady progress. Thanks, Jack
