RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted January 12, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2018 (edited) Evening all I hope you all had a good festive season. I just thought I'd post a quick update on how the reworking is getting on as things are starting to come together now. Three views of the platform after I had painted the white edge this evening. The surface is now ready for the station building and furniture to go back with a few improvements and additions. The roadway outside needs the kerb stones fitting and then some road markings painted to finish. I was never 100% happy with the left-hand end of the chalk cutting face where the baseboards join so I have set about this as well. I've added some box profile steel as a retaining wall at the narrowest point for the road access to the fuel point, as if there has been a slippage of the embankment. I've also added more green paint 'moss' to the chalk face to tone the white down a bit more and I now intend adding a lot more foliage to the scene. Whilst in the mood, several other bits and pieces of detail have been added as well, and the ballast needs a bit more weathering here and there to hide the fresh stone. I've now had confirmation of Tidworth's invite to the Romsey exhibition in March so I've got a few weeks to get finished off. RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted January 17, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 17, 2018 (edited) Evening all Arrived home earlier than expected today so spent some time in the garage with the reworks and as BR used to say 'we're getting there'! Block paving added where the station building is sited, red this time rather than the yellow previously, plus a drainage channel added on the railway side of building. Kerbing has been added along with some manhole covers and drains and today yellow lines painted including the bin area to the right. Just about ready to put the station building back plus all the other bits and pieces. Edited October 18, 2022 by Temeraire

Zippyrascal
Hi Temeraire, A lovely little layout from the best period without question. Always nice to see a 50 at the head of a MK2 rake!! I've been looking at your military vehicles with interest as I'm modelling some MOD traffic myself. Would you mind telling me where you got the UN lorry carried on the Warwell from please? All the best David
bescotbeast
Looking good Ian, the detail you've added to the station forecourt area alone is amazing. Simon
RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted January 18, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 18, 2018 Would you mind telling me where you got the UN lorry carried on the Warwell from please? Hi David Thanks for your comments. The UN lorry was on loan from Kevin's (Hampshire Hog) layout Leaford at the time so he will be able to give you more info but I believe it is the Airfix kit modified by a friend of his. Rhysb
Platform looks great Ian! Is the brickblocking, drains etc a texture sheet or a card sheet? Thanks Rhys
RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted January 19, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 19, 2018 Hi Rhys Both are card the drains on thicker card than the block paving.
RMweb Premium OnTheBranchline Posted January 21, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 21, 2018 (edited) Evening all So having now got both the garage and the shed in some sort of order, Tidworth has been set up in the garage for a while now for a couple of playdays. However, today I packed away all the trains to get on with the remedial works to the platform that I've been putting off for too long. The platform edging had come adrift from the baseboard causing the platform surface to rise up in front of the station building. So this afternoon I cracked on with the demolition work! Rework2_171209.jpg Very quickly the building and other furniture were removed from the platform and set aside for refitting later. Rework3_171209.jpg Site cleared ready to start putting things back. Rework1_171209.jpg First the trackbed was secured down with superglue and weighed down whilst drying. Rework4_171209.jpg Platform edging stuck back in place including a bit extra cut away after it turned out it was worse than I thought! Rework5_171209.jpg Looking the other way with all the edging levelled and in position. A good start today and now that work is underway I can dabble whenever I've got 5 mins to spare back filling and replacing the platform surface. I plan to finish off the roadway outside the station entrance properly too as this had never been completed . There are also various other bits and pieces to sort as well as one or two additional extras to be added all before the next outing to Romsey in March. I also need to make repairs to the traverser's shield as this was damaged by someone leaning on the signs saying 'please do not lean on this surface'! No drinking and training, that can turn very expensive VERY quickly. Edited January 21, 2018 by OnTheBranchline
RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted January 30, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 30, 2018 (edited) Another two weeks have passed so time for an update on progress before I head off to football. Station building now secured back in position viewed from the trackside. A couple of seats to replace under the shelter and a touch up on the NSE red here and there but pretty much done. Two views of the improved station forecourt with a side gate now in place that wasn't there before, plus the ticket machine for when the booking office is closed. Also you can see the addition of the kerbs, road markings and the rail barrier to protect the fence. There are still a few bits and pieces to put back in place and a bit of greenery will be added here and there when I have the scenic stuff out for the cutting side later, but I'm much happier with the revised look so far.
