RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted September 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2019 (edited) Evening So things are still progressing steadily and after a long weekend away in Lyme Regis, further work has been done. The road and footpaths had a coat of Suedecoat, followed by grey tones, and the chalk faces 'weathered' with earthy and green tones. The rear of the existing bridge given more colours to try and match the Tidworth side. Fiddle Yard end bridges again given more paint colours to tone them down/weather them. A small bit of finishing off of the embankments and pathway to and across the bridges to complete now that they are fixed in place. View down the extension as if standing on the footbridge. My favourite photo so far, the view as if I'm in the tree outside Tidworth station! I'm liking the way this view is shaping up so far. Today I took delivery of a lot of fence posts ready to fence in the MoD land which will be the next move after I've added the ground frame and a bit of filling in of ballast. P.C.M
Hi Ian, The new section is looking great. You have certainly cracked on with it. Hope you enjoyed Lyme Regis. It a great little town my Dad was born in Up Lyme so we used to go there quite often. Cheers Peter.

There was one of the shunters out of the shed as well, didn’t even realise there were any still here! 2
cromptonnut
I've got a Thumper too - would love a Hastings unit but my kitbuilding skills are too much of a risk for the cost of the thing. I went out to video it, and annoyingly my phone threw a wobbly and lost all the footage I got at Abbots Ann and Red Post. I had a lovely shot lined up for the bridge over the A342 and after 20 minutes of waiting the yappy dog finally got bored and went away, then I found I had no footage so went home in a huff. Wondered quite what they were going to do up there for an hour, didn't realise there was anything still left there.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted September 15, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 15, 2019 Afternoon all As mentioned above, the sidings at Ludgershall had a visitor yesterday for the first time in ages! Hastings Diesels unit 1001 arrives at the site of Ludgershall station. After some discussions with the local staff the unit heads into the MoD site. The last coach to pass under the roadbridge and through the gates. First destination was to the cutoff stub of track where it used to cross the road and into the vehicle shed site. Then it set back and ran to the end of what was the Tidworth branch (very short!), this was used to access the Medical stores site at the back before they were demolished recently. Now returning to the old station again for the last move. Now waiting departure time in the 'Horse' sidings? Now departs for Andover. And that's it back on Railtrack metals. Who knows when we might see another train here? Whilst waiting for the train to return from 'Tidworth' something was noticed behind the shed! One of the military shunters outside the shed with lights on, although I didn't expect the Purple paint job! I guess it was brought outside for the benefit of the punters on the train?

There used to be a public foot path from near those gates across the tracks to just the Civi station side of the back of the Catholic church then across the doctors meadow to the path down the side of the C of E church.. RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted September 27, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 27, 2019 (edited) Evening all So work has been progressing this week as the Fareham date looms very large!! Evenings this week have mainly featured going boss eyed constructing all the fencing for the MoD compound. All now done having threaded 6 wires through the posts and then attaching the mesh. Closeup of the fence after the 'orangey' rust was toned down this afternoon. The footbridge was weathered today, the deck fixed in place and a bit of weedage added along the inner edges. Once this was done the bridge was finally fixed permanently in position on the layout. Also the two bridges at the other end were permanently fixed in place and the footbridge added to the old girder bridge based on the one at Worting Jct. Finally this evening before dinner a start was made on adding the greenery. Still lots to do but moving in the right direction. Wayne 37901
The new extension is looking great, it'll look good with some stock on it. If that is one of the Steelman Royale shunters, they looked much better in green! Cheers. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted October 3, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2019 (edited) Evening all So where are we then? I've just come in from the garage having boxed up Tidworth ready to be loaded for Fareham this weekend, I can do no more! The extension is probably 80% complete but presentable for this weekend. The main things still needed to be done are a fence line along the front of the farm track on the embankment up to the bridges at both ends, a pair of gates at the entry to the MoD sidings and then general detailing of the original Tidworth roadway and the new board. All this will be done before the next exhibition at Taunton. So here goes, be gentle! An 08 collects some wagons from the MoD sidings. And heads under the bridge into the head shunt, (traverser) View of the track across the two bridges. View across the new baseboard from the footpath, with a 159 approaching Tidworth. After a quick turnaround the 159 heads back to London under the new footbridge. As the 159 disappears the 08 is propelling its train back out of the sidings towards Tidworth yard. This is also a good general view of the new section that still needs further detailing. There we go then after four years on the road Tidworth gets its extension that was initially suggested at its first exhibition!! See you at Fareham and come and say hello. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2019 Technically from the sidings to the yard is within station limits so the shunter could be on the ground doing it making the van optional, but the moves up the MOD line would definitely need one. The line past the MOD is actually the station loop, not mainline, that ends just off scene under the bridge. Chances are the van would be dumped in the loop while the loco dropped off inbound and then shunted the outbound traffic back on if departing immediately.
