Satan's Goldfish
Progress has been slow to nonexistant the last couple of weeks due to things to do around the house and heavy work commitments, but this morning I took the oppotunity to let the boat finally meet the scene to see how the perspective effect works. Result: not really the best! Oh well I'll keep going at it anyway :-) Containers seem to help, it doesn't work so well empty.
ginger j
It may look better if viewed at eye level....forced perspective doesn't really work when viewed from an 'elevated' position. A lower viewpoint should also help hide the fact that the boat is so close to the cliff....Just a suggestion! Other than that, it looks rather good GJ
Satan's Goldfish
Good call. The trolley it's on at the moment is only 2ft high so I am looking down on it all the time.
Satan's Goldfish
Progress still slow, but I have been working on some containers. Here's a 45ft tropical to add to the deck, well it is supposed to be the carribean! There's also some new 20s to show off when it's all done.

RMweb Premium GWRPhil Posted July 4, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 4, 2014 Plastruct steps and railings. Does anyone have a 4mm Tom Hanks?! 20140704_220454.jpg now thats a really hard thing to track down
Satan's Goldfish
Apart from a 4mm Tom Hanks the ship is as finished as it's going to get now all therailings are done. I might add some container roofs to the holds eventually but this won't be until after the challenge deadline now. I now have a couple of weeks to try and get trains running and plant a lot of Palm Trees.

Satan's Goldfish
Loaded up for the first time since receiving some very kindly donated containers. Looking very full, and there's still half a dozen 30s and a couple of 40s to sort 'details' on to fill it even more thanks for watching so far, time for me to get my soldering head on. Satan's Goldfish
3 weeks to go..........arghhhhhh!!! Does it matter if my track won't run at the deadline?! Work is swamping my month of July.
Satan's Goldfish
First round of palm trees get planted. no track running yet....
Satan's Goldfish
Sod it, scenery 'finished'. This is it then. You can judge whether the perspective side of it has worked and it feels as if the ship is out at sea away from the island. Ship Empty: Ship Loaded: That's all folks! Satan's Goldfish
Think I've worked out why to me the perspective doesn't look quite right. I think it's because the bridge house is higher than the cliffs. If the cliffs were taller it may have worked better. Too late now though.
RMweb Premium GWRPhil Posted July 14, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2014 It's a lovely model mate.
Snowman1969
Looks really good. I've seen the Geest banana container ship coming out of Portsmouth harbour a few times and its bridge looks tall in comparison to the vista around. As an idea if you decide to do a similar vignette again in the future if you were to slightly angle the sides of the box inwards towards the back of the box, then that may help. But overall you should be really proud, as others have said a cracking job.
stadman
Just found this one this evening. Fantastic model, my nephew would never forgive me for using the lego though.
Beacon
Fantastic! I've looked many time at the Deans Marine site wondering when I might ever be able to afford one of their ships and then I stumbled upon this - very inspiring work... thanks for sharing! Satan's Goldfish
Challenge is over so the box has been removed from the house back to the garage. An alteration is going to be made from a practicality standpoint and the shelf at the back is going to be cut off to leave it as a diorama and make it more managable to move around. Satan's Goldfish
Cheers Pete. The wife is going to dislike the fact i've ordered half-a-dozen more ships bridge windows, that'll be her dining table taken over again! Matt

45059
Superb model you've made there, good effort! Such a shame I hadn't found this thread sooner- perhaps I could have assisted you with some detail shots of the feeders we get at work. (You definitely need to add an IMO number and the obligatory NO SMOKING sign under the bridge though! )
