Ni Hao,

Which Beijing Station and which Tower?

I arrived in Beijing yesterday, via Beijing NanZhan (South Station) from SuZhou, and may be tempted to visit.

Also, there might be something wrong with my computer or your video. Either way a can't view/play it.

No sorry, still can't get anything to work.

Whilst in SuZhou I could get the HongKong YouTube but not anything else.

Now I'm in Beijing, no YouTube seems to work.

I look forward to your map link though.

Thanks,

Kev.

PS. Do these links work for anybody else?

If you are in China, you can not view any youtube video. Try to download some over the wall software, so that you can view it in anywhere in China

The red line shows the location where I took the video

Well thanks very much to you 1020273444.

I had a great time looking at the trains entering and exiting BeiJing Zhan.

(Beijing Station, but not to be confused with either BeiJing NanZhan or BeiJing XiZhan (South or West)).

I took the Subway to Beijing station and this will bring you out at the main square in front of the Station.

But on the north side of the tracks.

It's quite a trek round to the south side where the old city wall is located.

I would recommend taking a taxi.

If you do, show him this ticket which is what they give you when you pay to get in.

AND it cost more than 5 Yuan!

I had to pay 10 Yuan. (Maybe they can tell I am not local!)

This is the view from the tower, on top of the old city wall.

As you can see its quite a good view of the station throat area.

Here's an orange train arriving behind a blue engine.

And here's a light blue one!

There are lots of light engine movements here all the time.

I can say that this is a great location to just watch the trains going by.

Thanks again 1020273444.

Kev.

Here are some more phot's taken from the same city wall.

This thing reminded me of a cross between a 31 and a 25!

(It sure did rattle a lot!)

The loco hauled trains can be long. 19 coaches behind the loco is common.

Also, the liveries are quite varied but NEVER are they mixed on the same train.

(Note the guard keeping an eye on me! There were three watching me and they were quietly polite, but camera shy.)

Actually, security IS visibly high around anything railway related in China - especially now.

I don't know what these things are, (actually, I don't know what any of them are), but these seemed quite common.

post-12815-0-92583000-1394334239_thumb.jpg

These are China's High Speed Trains - the CRH's.

A LOT of purpose built fast, straight high speed lines have been built across China and many loco hauled services are being replaced by the things.

They run at 290km/h, 300km/h or 350km/h depending upon politics, media and public concerns/attitudes!

2 unit trains, totalling 18 carriages, are the norm.

Here's the final batch from me.

(The others I took were rubbish due to bad aim and a diabolical phone camera - apologies!)

This is another one of those rattling class31 look-a-like thingies, but they sound like a 37!

This one is DF4 0014. (The one in my previous post was DF4 0015.)

I think these are DF4s? (According to Wiki they seem to be.)

I seem to recall seeing them in most areas of China.

post-12815-0-39153100-1394348373_thumb.jpg

Here's another one of those "common" ones again, but this time on a double decker train.

(But how is that for an alien sky line folks?)

post-12815-0-52438800-1394348534_thumb.jpg

Two light engine movements at once!

SS9 0004 passing DF4 4258.

post-12815-0-35555200-1394349470_thumb.jpg

A DF5(?) 3020 shunting/trip loco coming out of the Station.

If this is a DF5 then, (according to Wiki), they have been in production since 1976!!

post-12815-0-83503100-1394350019_thumb.jpg

The same shunting loco re-entering BeiJing Station whilst a CRH leaves at the same time.

I really enjoyed my time on the "wall" and would recommend it to anyone with a spare couple of hours in Beijing.

Once again, thanks 1020273444 (Mr Zhang).

It's a pleasure that you enjoy the time on Great wall.

I took quite a lot of video on the wall. I'm gonna take more video this summer, but this time I will go with a video stand, so the view from video recorder could be much more stable.

Good idea.

I would be tempted to take a folding stool plus the obligatory umbrella (YongSan).

(And a bottle of water.)
