I was thinking a couple of teak suburbans for the passenger and some vans to run on Lulworth ;) obviously they've had a small diesel conversion . . . .

It's one of those things that it evokes the rose tinted fun, I'd even considered the ACE trains O gauge one but this OO model will suit the needs as I can run and operate it a bit. If the collection grows I might eventually build a mini specially for it and some proper stock.

Third and/or fourth rail essential? I wonder how many Hornby Brighton Belles or Bachmann CEPs/MLVs are running on layouts with 3rd rail? I'll wager its not a high percentage. Lack of fourth rail will make absolutely no difference to sales of the Heljan loco. If people like it/want it, they'll buy it and run it regardless.

Regards the power rails - how does the Coventry Electric Railway cope with it's 3rd rail stock?

And Paul, why bother with a diesel conversion, when you can stick batteries in one of the vans?

:)

Chris,

As I thought that I had made clear previously, I totally agree with you, that is exactly what many folks will do. As I said before it's their layout and they can do what they want with it.

The EP sample certainly looks clean enough. I'm almost tempted even though I don't model LU.

I think the engineering sample looks fantastic. I can definitely see me buying one of these to go with my LT Pannier in my collection as I also don't model LT (though a station diorama to show of the pannier is on the project list!).

Just by way of encouragement for this model, may I put my hand up as one who will find an excuse to run a Met Bo-Bo other than Sarah?

Anyone else?

You can always go for John Hampden one end, Sarah on the other and a rake of RT models brake vans between them. I think that was John Hampden's last run before being carted off to the museum!

You could even go for a smoke unit in one of the brake vans to get the effect of the hotbox which brought a rather abrupt end to the tour...

After the Chesham branch was electrified and the A stock was late, there was a short period when there was TnT Bo-Bos on the 1st and last train of the day.  For the rest of the day 1 loco came in, and the other took the train out, leaving loco in siding for the next trip.

There is something about these loco's that takes my fancy. As soon as Captain Kernow confirms that they ran over the Somerset & Dorset I will put my name down for one. :sungum:

No problem as soon as they are released I'll take some track and a battery down and run one on the S&D so you can say with confidence that 'this model has run on the S&D' ;)

Not quite what you describe and since this photo was taken a few more LT Brake Vans have been added

Thanks Roy for the info and the PM.

Cheers.

The listing does leave the door open for No.5 JOHN HAMPDEN to be an exclusive from Covent Garden if they're interested.

A nice mix of eras and the possibility of others to come. If Heljan follow their usual practice then there won't be a huge number of each item. Logic would suggest they make a few more "Sarahs"

Interesting that nobody has noticed the prototype has an NEM coupler pocket under the buffer beam... :sungum:

As one of the few members here to have been trained on the Met electrics and T stock, though I never went on one in service, I want one anyway!

There's quite a wide variety of BR b/g stock you can use with them, including early mk2s which were used on District Line tours at times. The mk2 were "route tested" with battery locos on the DR tunnel section, but were slightly foul of the tunnel roof in places. There's a link on District  Dave about this. As for tours on BR in later years, again a variety of stock! Luckily the locos were dual-fitted, so could work with anything.

They also appeared on some freight workings in Met days. Today of course Sarah can be seen with the LT VEP/TC/whatever they use; top and tail with a class 20, Black 5, class 66....

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone know how many locos we're painted in the wartime grey?

I also remember seeing a photo of a bo bo hauling a rake of well wagons loaded with tanks or armoured vehicles, does anyone have that photo in a book or mag?

Tom
