Dorkingian
The Dorking Garden Railway in 4mm scale mostly features 1950s and '60s trains. The layout at present is a single track continuous run of almost 70 feet, with plans for double tracking. The emphasis is on running trains - and videoing them. Here are some typical scenes: There's a playlist of Dorking Garden Railway videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/Dorkingian
cromptonnut
Oh for an outside layout... but being on the third floor of a block of flats I think "T scale in a windowbox" is probably my limit...
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 27, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2014 When I lived in Dorking (bottom of Deepdene Vale) nearly 50 years ago, I am confident my dad would not have tolerated my trains in his garden!
Dorkingian
After visitors arrived at the weekend with a bagful of old Tri-ang locos, we dusted them off and got them running, although old, coarse wheels don't go too well with Peco points. There's a two minute video of the proceedings here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvdKgb8b6Y4&list=UUd1ACIZyclJqIjOg3GWB2_g Even includes the venerable Tri-ang Stephenson's "Rocket". Dorkingian
Yesterday we had a majestic Metropolitan visitor in the shape of Heljan's new London Transport Bo-Bo electric loco "John Hampden", complete with some LT goods rolling stock. Looked good and ran well: Unfortunately there aren't any suitable coaches available to go with this loco, so we had to improvise: We spent the afternoon reminiscing about growing up in Metroland, and arranging plausible scenes to photograph, based on the line from Rickmansworth to Baker Street and the parallel ex-GC line to Marylebone (well, almost plausible, if you make allowances for the absence of conductor rails): I knew those old tinplate LNER teak coaches would come in useful one day!
Jenny Emily
The Hornby Dublo tinplate coaches are very nice. I wouldn't have the heart to swap out all the Mazac wheels for plastic ones though. These days only the HD Super detail coaches get a run from time to time. However my Father is building a 3 rail layout in his railway room that will once again echo to the sounds of tinplate, if we can only decide and source what controllers to use as time has been called for safety reasons of deteriorating insulation on the original A3s, C3s, T1s and A2s.

Dorkingian
Today I was lucky enough to discover some seasonal photos taken in the Fraser River Canyon, British Columbia, in the 1960s. They feature a pair of Canadian National F7As in zebra stripe livery with the 'wet noodle' logo, hauling a short freight train. Let's see how the first photo turns out before I do any more... Dorkingian
Snow in the Dorking Rockies didn't last long but there was just time to shoot this pair of F7As carefully exploring the track before the snowplow and flanger had been through. Dorkingian
We recently had a German HO steam afternoon, courtesy of David from Reigate who brought an assortment of Fleischmann, Piko and other locos and rolling stock. We tried pairings of several different 2-10-0s and ran the Prussian P8. It was rather cold but great fun. The link to the video of the session is below these (low quality) screengrabs: The 6 minute video is here:
Dorkingian
With the help of visitors Geoff and Josh we had a German afternoon recently. Josh produced a couple of short but very nice videos here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1_rnzKQTBBE https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bj1anOePZyQ Do have a look at them! Here are a few of the still pics: This Prussian P10 loco in ex-works undercoat is passing a waiting DB Pacific in the sidings Here the P10 runs rounds Sycamore Curve This early streamlined Deutsche Reichsbahn Pacific might look even more impressive without those smoke deflectors! This DB 03 electric is coasting over a gap in the catenary - or being towed backwards with its freight train by a loco we can't see... Dorkingian
The Dorking Garden Railway was delighted to have visitors from Wakefield in the form of IanR and friend Mike in early August. Ian brought a couple of beautiful locos to run - an A4 and an A3 - and a good day was had by all.
