Here's a shot with a D400 in it from 1968, so it was fairly new out of the box.

D402 at the head of a northbound freightliner train waits at signals just south of Carnforth station as D1739 crosses its path with a train from Barrow, on 19th July 1968

A few slide scans from my collection.

April 1989. 50005 rests outside Westbury Panel Signalbox. Much has changed in this view - The cement works is shut and the chimney gone, the wastelands beyond the car park are now covered in housing and the compound, in which the signalbox stands, blooming with buddleia!

June 1989. 50017 stands at Waterloo on what is believed to be the 20:38 to Yeovil Jn.

This one has appeared on a different topic thread but it's still one of my favourite b&w Class 50 shots:

Exciting times at Reading on 28th May 1974: 50009 is arriving with a train for Paddington, passing D7016 standing with a ballast train

Excellant! A chance meeting.

A Hymek and a 50 in the same shot is rare!

I know of only 2 others, one of them is this one- http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p642814889/h3A7A1B9D#h3a7a1b9d (not mine I hasten to add!- no such luck.)

I also spent hours legging it up and down that stations platforms during the 80's, happy days!

The time frame 'overlap' with Hymeks and 50s on the WR is relatively short, namely October '72 to March '75, but you'd think there would still be more photos of them together.

Well, here's another one, then! The Hymek was standing in the centre road for a while and several trains passed it, if I remember.

Now your just showing off!! :O :good: :good:

Joking aside, what a treat to see! You could almost hear the young spotters- ""can we cab you driver?""

What was 1B55, a Temple Meads service?

Hi Gary

I've just checked my notebook (should have done that before I uploaded the photo, sorry!) and see that I actually travelled on the train pulled by 50049 from Reading (dep. 1303) to Paignton, where I stayed overnight in a b&b. This was on the second day of an all-line rover ticket. The previous day I had travelled from Paddington to Didcot behind the same 50 - what a swizz!

You can almost smell the new paint on this one!...

Fresh out of Doncaster Works, 50010 Monarch arrives at Newcastle on road trials with the test train on 26th May 1981

- the first one I ever saw in this livery style.

Trevor

50023 was my first one I ever saw in large logo livery!

Its very weird looking back now because at the time, this livery looked so loud and striking in amongst all the plain blue!

Little did we know at the time how liveries would become so sickly over the next 30 years or so.
