montyburns56
Something that has struck me is that I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a 50 without the MU cables on the front. I say that because that is the version that Dapol has produced with a pre-Tops number, despite it seemingly being rarely photographed or seen. Does anyone remember seeing one without them or have any pictures?

I am intrigued by the shot in the earlier Monty Burns post of the two parcels passing on a long straight. I think but am not sure, this is to the south of Coppull in Lancashire on the WCML, with the slow lines having been lifted, they remain so today but it's now wired, done in 1973/74. John. Silly me, if you click on the pics and go to Flickr there are full captions. Not convinced by the claim that the two parcels passing are near Preston though. Flood
Well your photo of 50014 was taken between 14 April 1986 and 8 October 1987. Probably spring/summer 1986 as 1. it is relatively clean and 2. none of the coaches are in executive yet (but you can't see much of the rake). Once the WCML north of Preston was electrified they started to wander a bit more, but according to the caption this was actually a train from Edinburgh!
