A recent one of the GB 50s from me.

49722019641_0ca920c9ff_h.jpgLaira bound Hoovers by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr

Heading back to the former 50 hotspot, 50007 'Hercules' leads 50049 'Defiance' past Winterbourne working 5Z44 Long Marston - Laira with 43091 in the middle of the Vac sandwich. Well timed to run on the last day of freedom pre the Coronavirus lock down!

Something that has struck me is that I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a 50 without the MU cables on the front. I say that because that is the version that Dapol has produced with a pre-Tops number, despite it seemingly being rarely photographed or seen.  Does anyone remember seeing one without them or have any pictures?

So there is, cheers. It's weird to see though, like seeing a man who has suddenly decided to shave off his beard.

to me they look odd without the centre headlight too

@montyburns56 do you have locations for your pics above, I know the first one is crewe but I can’t place the rest

I think these are as follows;

406/ 1M18, Crewe as you say

410/ 1J42, Manchester Victoria, probably a Glasgow - Liverpool/ Manchester split at Preston

Station shot, no number, 1M35, probably Glasgow Central

Rural hills, 1M35, Low Gill south of Shap with the M6 being built c.1969

403/ 2T89, Preston heading north

Shed with many, Polmadie as you say

81015 on left in station, Glasgow Central.

I am intrigued by the shot in the earlier Monty Burns post of the two parcels passing on a long straight. I think but am not sure, this is to the south of Coppull in Lancashire on the WCML, with the slow lines having been lifted, they remain so today but it's now wired, done in 1973/74.

John.

Silly me, if you click on the pics and go to Flickr there are full captions. Not convinced by the claim that the two parcels passing are near Preston though.

Well your photo of 50014 was taken between 14 April 1986 and 8 October 1987. Probably spring/summer 1986 as 1. it is relatively clean and 2. none of the coaches are in executive yet (but you can't see much of the rake).

I found a few '50's in my last batch of scans, so I hope they might be of interest.

50 026 at Waterloo (many thanks to Western Aviator for confirming the location), November, 1990:

...and 50 050 at Old Oak Common Open Day, 17th August, 1991:

That’s Waterloo, not Paddington (and probably the scruffiest 50 I’ve ever seen).
