Signaller69
Just been looking through your thread Martin, nice work with all those Mk.2 cut and shut projects, always nice to see older models given a new lease of life. Martyn.
RMweb Premium MJI Posted October 3, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2017 My latest fun thing is trying to use GIMP to turn 3/4 views of coaches into side views. My little mould for gas bottles is shot. So I want good side views to make Large catering battery boxes. Propane cabinets. Propane control boxes. Refrigerator cabinets. Then make masters for casting. Only one of my restaurant/buffets is acceptable out of the box (Mainline). Need to revisit my W19xx RB for the Severn hauled set. I also have one more Lima full brake to be buffet converted, this time tempted by a M15xx for my Mark 3 based rake. My DC 101 is nearly complete, piccies up next week I hope.
RMweb Premium MJI Posted October 8, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2017 Still no pictures sorry DC 101 roofs now fixed with nuts and bolts. Just paint and wipers required. E1106 is getting an inside, worked on it while binge watching Walking Dead on Amazon Prime. I have two interior pictures from the internet. Now have some side views of E1106 and E1883 foe measuring boxes. Some from Robert CWP originals First will be the two variants of Propane cabinets, one with brackets halfway down, one with brackets to bottom. 9mm square it appears, maybe 9.5mm. 20 thou plastic card for the surround and door. RMweb Premium MJI Posted October 14, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 14, 2017 Here is the shell of E1106 And the interior under contruction My DC Kits 101 set B822, just requires a coat of paint on the roof, a tidied first class stripe and windscreen wipers My WR Diesel crane based on the Dapol kit, it will run with a Toad based van, a bogie bolster runner and a PWM shunter And my second NNV parcels van
jrg1
Most entertaining-please take lots of pictures of the Dapol crane, as I want to do something similar. The Dapol chassis is completely wrong for this model. Also, the NNV van-what did you attach the vents with? I found it difficult to make a good job of glueing the vents. Regards. cctransuk
Today been working on patterns Axle box & spring for crane Gas cabinets for buffets Having measured the prototype, and built a scale chassis, I can say that the springs / axleboxes appear to have been reclaimed MR tender fittings. As such, Slaters can supply glass-filled nylon mouldings https://slatersplastikard.com/others/4mmParts/4mmfittings.php . Regards, John Isherwood. Signaller69
Nice work on the 101 Martin, nice to see a different variation with the Trailer Brake 2nd. The ex Siphon and crane projects are looking great too.
RMweb Premium MJI Posted October 16, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 16, 2017 (edited) Nice work on the 101 Martin, nice to see a different variation with the Trailer Brake 2nd. The ex Siphon and crane projects are looking great too. Thanks There were 4 of this form of 101 on the WR all at Bristol, all in blue when I first saw them. The rest were normal DMBS TCL DMCL, of these blue or PTE eventually Blue Grey I do need another 101 as my other is Triang and too short. The NNV is an experiment as NNV 1 used thin plastic card and over the years sunk. But I needed two, so lets see how this one goes! There were 10 of these cranes on the Western Region, the one I am modelling was based at Gloucester for a while. E1106 was a mistake, I meant to buy E1883 but selected the wrong sides, but built it anyway for the fun of it. I suppose it could be a rail tour or might sell it. Or just accept that I can have out of location as I also have 2 WCML electrics and a IoW shunter. Edited October 16, 2017 by MJI

cctransuk
Hello John Was it your article in the magazines I read then? If so I have seen that one. No - my chassis has still to be completed !! I built it in brass and steel from original BR / manufacturers' drawings, and measurements taken on a withdrawn example at Slough. I needed a 'learning curve' project when I bought a Unimat lathe / milling machine, and this project required working steel pull-out stabilising beams with working bottle-jacks on their ends - talk about jumping in at the deep end !! Anyway, it works and is equalised, running on two internal frames bogies - at which point I was diverted onto other projects and there it has rested for twenty years or so. It WILL be finished - eventually. Regards, John Isherwood. Edited November 5, 2017 by cctransuk
RMweb Premium MJI Posted October 23, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 23, 2017 Since I reangled some piccies I have found that E1106 and E1883 have similar underframes. Also my first new gas cabinets are too big so started again 1mm smaller Also started on the catering battery box
