THE WEATHERING, A.SHOP.

Recommended Posts

HI

I am going to go through my collection of loco's and rolling stock, showing the weathering that i do.

Also i will be going through how i do the weathering process and how to get the effects i do on them.

So if you have any questions feel free to ask.

First a GW 0-6-2  , This one i wanted lightly weathered , just need to pop a crew in side.

Lovely work sir, Particulalry the ROD, 3f and 9f.

You have an excellent eye for texture and definition

Genuinely beautiful work and some of the best I've seen in 35 years of modelling.

Keep 'em coming.

Best Regards

Hi

Thank you too both of you for the kind comments about my weathering.

The 9F was done for someone else , who wanted it looking as it would have in the 1960's.

For my own loco' i liked to give them a traffic weathered look,as my layout is set in the mid 50's. when they still may have been cleaned on shed.

The fright loco's like the Rod and 3F i did a little bit more on the dirty side, i do not like over weathered locos that look like they are on there last legs.

Looking at photo from the 1950's it is surprising how clean some loco looked still, when weathering i never do it how i think they should look ,but always work from the real thing.

When doing them i take a lot of photo's during the weathering, the camera never lies and picks up any areas that may need more work.

Here is the latest bit of work i have done is this Hornby Terrier that i got for a very good price, Hope you like it.

Darren

I think its fair to say Pre 1956 steam locos were kept in as good as possible condition. There were plenty of cleaners employed and engine crews cared about their engines.

from 1956-58 things started to run down a bit and postt '58the writing was on the wall and conditions deteriorated. Looking through Flickr top link engines still were smartly turned in 1962/63.

Also in the early fifties many engines were either quite new A1,A2s many Black fives Halls Castles etc and of course the standards the standards. or recently rebuilt or modified A4s A3s the Bullieds etc. Certainly  pre '56 they were very much current technology and were looked after appropriatley.

Love the Terrier. There is a great deal of subtlety in your work ,just enough of everything in all the right places, and it is very fine work indeed.

I like the 24 and Mogul too the 24 is again subtle in its everyday condition and whilst i don't  know much about the Mogul it's a fair representation of post '58 condition without overdoing it.

looking forward to your next post.

Best regards

Hi

This Ivartt tank was done for someone else, they wanted it  renumber and to look a bit traffic weathered.

The BR logo was all ready on this loco, i did point this out to the chap but he did not mind, if it had been mine then i would have changed it, as long as the owner was happy with it,  and he was, then all is fine.

Working on something else now......

Hi

Sorry for not updating this, been busy working on another layout, and sorting out my stock for RMweb live.

Have been working on this the last few days, I brought it second hand, but it was in a poor state, some lining missing on the tender and piston box's.

I wanted to back date it to an early BR one as this one was late BR, i have added brass cab doors and brass head codes as well.

The weathering was copied from a few photo i have of Lord Anson at Guildford shed in 1957, looking quite dirty!.

Hope you like it.

All the best
