The nose dent on 022 seen off the over bridge on York station and another unidentified 55 from the same spot at York. The last one is 55 016 also at York, one that i returned back to Manch' behind on a trans pennine service to Liverpool.

The middle one is 55008. Unique in having squared off buffer shrouds.

Always wondered how 22 got that dent, anybody know? Brick off a bridge perhaps?!

Some great pics on here.

Cheers

Actually yeah never though about that! Hopefully that wasnt the cause, plus i dont think a head would make such a big dent if 22 was tanking on...

Nice to see blue deltics without the horrible white window surrounds.

It was a bit too white. Finsbury Park missed a trick if they didn't ask Bounds Green for a can of coach (window) grey. Would have been from a complementary colour palette. The 1960's colour wasn't white either!

Id love to one day see this running around under its own power, doubt itl ever, ever happen but we can dream. Wasnt there a rumour a while back a couple of Deltic 'A' engines were found that were the same as in the prototype and it wat mooted trying to get it back running? Im pretty sure i didnt dream it..

Great pics, keep them coming

D6822 hauling DELITC at Rugby, looks like it's on the up side so probably about to go past the station then round onto the Market Harborough line so it can be propelled into the shed....

The Deltic Preservation Society acquired two Series 1 marine engines some time ago, which are identical to DELTIC's other than having a marine gearbox fitted instead of a generator, and perhaps some other ancillaries. So in theory it would be possible, but as far as I am aware no-one that actually owns anything has ever suggested it happening.

D6822 is towing DELTIC en route to the Science Museum in London, it stopped off at Rugby for a while, not sure how long though.

Cheers Titan that must be it, probably read something on it many moons ago and the mind wandered into thinking someone suggested it. Anything is possible but i wont hold my breath!

All the best

I think it came about from people putting 2 + 2 and getting 5; some years ago when DELTIC visited Barrow Hill, it was arranged for a survey of the loco to be undertaken by the DPS to assess the condition of the loco and see what was missing. The fact that the DPS had some power units of the right spec meant some rumours circulated that this was a precursor to getting it running, especially as the NRM at the time to be softening their stance on work being undertaken on the locos to restore them to working order eg 55002/HST. As they have since regressed on this to the point that a number of the previous working locos are now broken and unlikely to be repaired I suggest Deltic is well down the queue.

I recall the survey on Deltic was curtailed but in addition to the missing crankshafts, the main cables to the traction motor have been cut during either the process to put it in the science museum or take it out.

55002 at Battersby in 1981 when she worked an ordinary railex from Newcastle to Whitby via Sunderland. At the time Battersby was still signalled with 3 platforms.

Deltics rarely visited Sheffield Midland.

55007, Pinza, presumably on a railtour, but sadly the slide has no date on it.

55022, slide processing date says 12/81, so presumably one of the last runs. Somewhere Donny way I seem to remember.

The famous 40162 which retained its headcode blinds up to withdrawal and sat out-of-use in a siding at Haymarket depot for years before finally being scrapped in 1987.

One from Peterborough station on 31st May 1980.  55 002 arrives with a northbound service - though it appears to be using a platform different to "normal" for northbound trains. As it's over 40 years ago now, I can't remember the reason!

Was actually one of the first photos I took using slide film, having been bought a Zenith EM SLR for the previous Christmas.

1977, 55018 At Haymarket heading back to Waverley after refuelling, there were about 5 of us on a Merrymaker from Sandy to Edinburgh for the sum of £1.50 each!.

Unidentified Deltic on the Up main through Sandy in Jan 1978, most likely a Sunday afternoon.

55022 on the down main at Sandy passing the 'New' fertiliser storage shed in what was the Down Yard, this is about 1978 after the running lines through the station were quadrupled.

In the foreground are 2 p'way chaps wearing high viz vests.....although you'd never know it!
