Peter Kazmierczak
Looking at your pictures Trevor has made me think about some of the first railway picture books I had in the late 70s. I particularly remember a couple called Diesels Nationwide (Volumes 1 and 2). I presumed the pictures contained within them would have been among the best available at the time but your pictures, from the same era, are streets ahead of many of them in terms of quality and composition. Did you ever try to get them published somewhere back then? The recent images you've posted on various threads of Deltics, Westerns and 50s have been quite brilliant. Thank you for sharing them. Totally agree that the quality of your photos, Trev, are superb. The composition, colour rendering and clarity of each shot are wonderful. Did you ever visit High Dyke and take shots there Trev? LNERGE
Super pictures. The main subject is of course very interesting but the detail is equally so. At Retford the backshade on the distant arm appears to be adjusted to totally obscure the backlight. That suggests the backlight couldn't be seen from the controlling signalbox and was obscured to reduce the number of white lights visible to nearby signalmen. Also note the Doncaster pilot has a match truck. 08's working in the station area required this.

Andy Louch
Hello Trevor, wonderful sharp, well composed photos of 'Dellies' at York, thanks for posting. Saw my last in BR operational status here: '21 in July 1981. I always regret that I never traveled behind one on the main line and had to wait until a couple of years ago when I had this opportunity at the ELR! Trev52A
Two at Darlington: 55017 pulls away from the Darlington stop with a northbound train on 16th August 1975. The DMU on the left has just arrived from Bishop Auckland - the guard is carrying the white tail lamp to place it at the other end 55012 waits for the 'off' at Darlington with the Edinburgh - Kings Cross 'Silver Jubilee' on 29th July 1977. Trev52A
On my home ground now at Low Fell, south of Gateshead, where I used to spend many happy hours watching the trains in the 1960s: 55021 accelerates from a p.w. slack in relation to installing a new crossover from the slow to fast lines, with a northbound train on 6th July 1975 55010 crosses from fast to slow on the original crossover at Low Fell on 22nd June 1975, passing a Class 40 with a northbound train Trevor Edited November 8, 2017 by Trev52A

Trev52A
A uid Deltic, although with a very short nameplate, passes under Wood Green flyover in July 1977. 55xxx wood green 7:77.jpg Now you've set us a poser, Jonny. Is that some sort of plate attached dead centre below the 'domino' box, or is it muck on the neg/slide? Also, if I enlarge it up there seems to be a pronounced dent on the nose near the top left corner (as we look at it). I'm sure someone will have a picture to compare it with, to identify the loco. I'll keep checking my collection. Cheers Trevor
RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted November 9, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 9, 2017 (edited) The only single line nameplate locos with dominos in July 1977 were 7, 8, 9, 15, 18, 20 and 22. I think 8 and 22 can be discounted due to the short name, and 18 was on works the whole month, leaving 7, 9, 15 or 20. Edit: and 7 only had 2 windscreen wipers, so it's either 9, 15 or 20. Looks like paint missing below the headcode, and possibly the sand filler cover also on the right hand side - 15 perhaps. jonny777
I can enlarge the image somewhat, but I'm not sure if the mark below the headcode panel is a mark on the slide because I cannot figure out which box the original is in, to check. The dent on the bonnet looks real but I am not sure how it would have been produced without further damage to the nose end.
