Guest Max Stafford
Sad news. Bizarre that the two major bridges on the same route should experience tragedies on the same day. My condolences to the families of the dead men. Dave.
great central
Very sad, any fatality is regrettable, all the more so when it involves a fellow railway worker. Thoughts to all involved.

craigwelsh
Very sad, only other day on Great railway journeys on BBC2, when portillo was on forth bridge, the good safty record of recent times was mentioned. My Thoughts with both families at this sad moment in time. Indeed I thought of that comment on recent safety when he was on the Forth, tragic for that record to be broken now and also amazing to happen at both bridges like this. Condolences to the families and also colleagues.
Chameleon
I must admit, I was surprised when I heard about the fatality on the Forth Bridge. I was under the impression that they never worked after dark as it was too dangerous in poor visibility?
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted January 28, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2010 The fact that these sad events are newsworthy tells us something. I think it was about 1990, in the widespread fallout from Clapham, that the man from Dupont was invited to BRB HQ. He walked into the Chairman's office, where he is alleged to have greeted him with "Good Morning, Chairman - how many staff have you killed today?" I think things have improved wholesale since that time, but that's no consolation to the grieving families. Horrid.
