Chris Turnbull Posted December 26, 2015 Share Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) I've seen pictures of EM1s on test on the GE with only one pan up The following explanation is from page 54 of John Glover's book "Eastern Electric":- The original intention was that the rearmost one [pantograph] only would normally be used at any one time. However, both pantogaphs were later used on a regular basis, due to the effects of icing on current collection and the general filth on the overhead contact wires caused by the presence of steam traction. Hope the weather is a bit better where you are as its been hoying it down here for the last 24 hours and we are coming through to Blyth (well Seaton Sluice!) this afternoon to see Annie's Mam. UPDATE: As Haltwhistle is now cut off by Floods on the A69 we won't be venturing out today!!
