RMweb Gold DaveF Posted February 4, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 4, 2017 No need to apologise for the quality of pics IMHO, worthwhile at any resolution. Mike. PS. Seem to have been a little light on hydraulics lately!! I have a distinct lack of photos of hydraulics. At the moment I am working on the last of the 1960s and early 70s photos and am hoping to find enough diesel hydraulic photos to make up one or two more days postings. Neither Dad nor I visited the GWR area very often though. David
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 4, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 4, 2017 Hi, Dave. I love those photos of Harrogate and the last regular steam hauled service train to Kings Cross as far as Leeds. The second photo is very seasonal with all that steam and snow. With warmest regards, Rob.

RANGERS
United did venture into Harrogate but more likely WYRC. Bristol L was my first thought but there's door visible at the rear and front entrance Ls were extremely rare

A quick reminder that Market Overton was at the end of an ex British Steel line, accessed at that time from the High Dyke branch and past Sewstern. At this time John Gretton and Bill McAlpine kept locos and stock there. When these photos were taken part of Dad's job was to manage the ex British Steel lines in the Sewstern area, along with the works there, so he and I often visited Market Overton. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted February 5, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 5, 2017 (edited) Photos taken around Benton Quarry Junction today. When I took these photos there was still a south to west facing connection from the ECML onto the Metro line for the freight traffic to Rowntrees at Fawdon. The junction with the Blyth and Tyne to to North Blyth, Cambois, Lynemouth and Morpeth is still in use. At that time the Metro system was only partly completed so trains only ran as far as Haymarket in Newcastle. LMS2968
Thanks for the steam at Harrogate on Saturday, Dave. I just can't make myself like these new-fangled diesel things, like Class 20s, 31s, 40s, etc. They'll never catch on, I'm telling you!

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 5, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 5, 2017 Hi, Dave. I have enjoyed seeing the photo's of Market Overton. Such a shame it did not work out there. the photo's of Benton Quarry Junction bring back some good memories. As can be seen in the last photo' there were still 55's on some of the passenger services. And in C5535, the Mk1 SK, is one of the later examples with the vents lined up over the compartment side of the coach, whilst the windows have the surrounds to them. With warmest regards, Rob. RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted February 6, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 6, 2017 I'm not sure "like" is appropriate for a photo of a Pacer on a Carlisle to Newcastle run. Good lineside views I suppose, but not exactly as comfortable as a Mk 3 carriage. Jonathan

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted February 8, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 8, 2017 (edited) In 1966 there was a mix of steam and diesel workings to be seen on the WCMl between Preston and Lancaster. These photos are from two visits to Barton and Broughton on one day in September 1966, in the morning and afternoon. I was still at school then about to start the second year of A levels, we must have been having a day out, perhaps the last Saturday of the school summer holidays. These are Dad's photos, I was taking black and white photos then. RMweb Gold DaveF Posted February 8, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 8, 2017 A 9F with Western lamp brackets, interesting as it doesn't appear to have dual brackets. I've had a look at my black and white photo of the same loco and train, the cabside is much too dirty to read the number. I don't think the numbers on the smokebox door are the loco number. It would have been interesting to know which loco it was. David
