Hi, Dave. I like the Plawsworth photo’s from 26th October, 1987. They are full of interest, and I particularly like C9179, with 37209 on a down rail  train. It’s interesting to see that it is a short train of either just one or two vehicles. Perfect for a small layout.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Hi, Dave. I like the Nottingham to Grantham line photo’s which are all full of interest. The first photo’, J7525, at Bottesford, with a class 45 on a Yarmouth to Nottingham service in August, 1981, has the train composed of side corridor, Mk1 compartment carriages, which, apart from the change of traction from steam to diesel, and the livery, would surely have changed little over many years. Sprinters came and swept it all away within a matter of years. Nowadays there are not even extra trains of any kind run anymore. No ironing board seats either.......

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Hi, Dave. I like the Leicestershire and Rutland photo’s which are all interesting but sad too. So much railway was lost in the ‘60’s. In C5503, with Harringworth viaduct, in March, 1971, I’m left wondering just how many arches that very long example had. Certainly it’s a most imposing structure.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

J7525 - the only matching record in the RailGen Archive for the month of August 1981 suggests that 45 058 worked an Alfreton & Mansfield Parkway to Great Yarmouth (and return) ADEX between A&MP and Norwich on Tuesday 4th August. At maximum magnification it looks likely that that is the number of the loco in the photograph and the train formation would suggest that it might well be an ADEX.

J7736 - it's not clear what the number of the leading Class 20 is, however it appears to be 20 0 followed by another rounded digit. The RailGen Archive for August 1982 conveniently only shows one entry for a locomotive that might match that description, that is paired with a headcode-fitted example:  20 087, which was paired with 20 160 on 1E85 08:46 Burton-upon-Trent to Skegness and 1M47 18:40 Skegness - Burton-upon-Trent on 12th.

Great images, as always, David. Fascinating to see Saxby Junction, other than by flying past on a train. As a young boy I remember visiting friends in Bourne, who lived adjacent to the railway, and seeing stacks of recovered track panels and rusty, disused running rails. I just wish that I'd had the forethought to take some photographs - or the ability to download the images from my head!

Hi, Dave. I like the Blyth and Tyne photo’s. They are full of interest. I particularly like the first one at Winning of 56103 Stora, on the 26th August, 1997. The 56 looks good in shiny EWS livery.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

But you've got to admit large logo suits them better?

Like the RS escort at the crossing, can't make out what version it is though....

Hi, Dave. I like the latest Dry Doddington photo’s which are full of interest and nostalgia. They are all so well composed by your Dad, and that first photo’ of a Deltic, class 55, number D9021 on the Noon King’s Cross to Aberdeen express in July, 1969, is one where the weathering on the Deltic is certainly ‘interesting ‘!  I don’t recall seeing one weathered like that before and I’m sure it would look awful if I tried to do that on a model!

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Edited to correct the Deltic’s number and input the trains details now they are known. ;)

J1781. A typo I’m afraid David. It’s D9021.

Many thanks Andrew, it was indeed a typing error - I think the keys swop places on my keyboard from time to time.

I'd also forgotten to include the details of the train in the caption so I've now added it.

Could be a MK2 1600 Ghia? as both RS2000 & 1600 Sport had brandings on the rear panels I seem to remember. My pure (or poor) guess work unfortunately.
