Hi, Dave. I like the York photo’s which are full of interest and bring back many happy memories. In J9077, with 150203 running in multiple with another 150/2, on a Scarborough to Liverpool service in  July, 1987, it helps to remind me just how uncomfortable the seats on those units could be after more than about an hour.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

12098 was the last of the Lambton Railway locomotives and as  513 was at Labton Cokeworks till closure, alas it was sold to Harry Needle and was broken up for spares!

That's a shame,  looks good in green most seem to be black. I tried talking my mate to paint the one he restoring green or blue  but he wants it black

Great pictures David

In the top one the rusty line coming in under the loco was number 1 down goods  , I hadn't realised it had been closed that long . I used to like going down that from thornaby station as it ran along the bank of the tees. It closed to build the Tees barrage

Hi, Dave. I like the Stephenson Railway Museum/North Tyneside Steam Railway photo’s which are all very interesting. In C9500, at Middle Engine Lane, with Kitson, A5, on the 29th May, 1988, it is a most interesting design of engine which I’ve not seen much of before.

The Teesside photo’s are fascinating and in the last one at Teesport, with 153317, on a Saltburn to Middlesbrough service on the 7th May, 1994, you can see all the diesel particulate surrounding the exhaust pipe in the roof.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Nearer home my today so we are in Northumberland looking at trains passing through Cramlington.

Cramlington is between Newcastle and Morpeth.

The trees have grown a lot since the photos were taken and the station building has been demolished.

Royal train at Cramlington...I remember that. Not 100% sure if I was at the station or elsewhere....but I do recognise some of my mates looking a bit unruly standing apart from the main crowd. Good grief...could you imagine such lax security being allowed today!? That picture brings back wonderful memories, thanks for posting.

Hi, Dave. I like the Glasgow photo’s which are all full of interest. In C19312, at Glasgow Exhibition Station, with 314204 on a service to Dalmuir, on the 26th February, 1994, you have a good scene with the EMU going about its work without any ceremony, just quiet dignity.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Hi, Dave. I like the photo’s going north from Newcastle to Benton Quarry Junction, which are full of nostalgia and interest. In C9387, of a class 101 DMU, on the 5th April, 1988, the centre car is a suburban high density car, and I think it’s probably a class 116 car.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Hi, Dave. I like the Trent and Loughborough photo’s which are full of interest, and it is fascinating to compare them with the earlier ones which were posted  on here last year.

In J10028, at Loughborough, with 150120 on a Coventry to Nottingham service in June, 1989, in the background you can see a crane either lifting something off a wagon or placing it onto it.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Same crane as in the post last week - Loughborough Plasser crane DGP81531 10th June 89 C12004.jpg

Loughborough 43115 up 10th June 89 C12009. - is I take it the identity of the leading power car, as that one at the rear is definitely 43077...

Dave

Newcastle Class 101 5th April 88 C9387

101 has a WR 117/118 TCL, not a thing I've seen before, and as far as I there's no yellow stripe or '1s' on the doors of the first class saloon, so it's been downgraded to second throughout.  88 is late in the day for 1st generation dmus and all sorts of combinations appeared as the depots did their best to keep the trains running!

I missed 43077 off the caption - more haste less speed.

Hi, Dave. I like the Bottesford photo’s which are all full of interest. I’ve been doing some research into the unit in J7989, with a two car class 105 on a Grantham to Nottingham service, in July, 1983. The unit was originally DMBS Sc51483, and DTCL, Sc56472. The trailer was renumbered on an unknown date in 1983 to E54472 - you can make out the number on enlarging the photo’. It was originally allocated to 61A, Kittybrewster in April, 1959, and, certainly, the trailer was moved to Lincoln in May, 1975. The power car was scrapped in May, 1982, so I’m not sure which DMBS the trailer was working with with by 1983. Hugh Longworth’s book does not say.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

FYI, Rob, from my own notes:

DTCL 56472 was paired with DMBS 51280, Lincoln-based, sighted at Leeds City on 22 Dec 1980; on 24 Oct 1982 it was seen at Sheffield Midland, by then paired with 51278, still based at Lincoln.

By September 1983 it had become 54472 and transferred to Norwich, where it was paired with 51276. Dave's photograph was taken in the previous July, so it's quite likely that this was the pairing transferred from Lincoln. I noted the pair at Peterborough on 6 Sep 1983 and 11 Feb 1985.

It latterly returned to Lincoln, still with 51276, and was noted thus, at York, on 26 Apr 1986. Following withdrawal, it was noted in East Holmes Yard, with other class members, on 7 Mar 1987, awaiting disposal.

The original DMBS, 51483, appears to have stayed in Scotland to the end, formed as part of various Haymarket three-car sets.
