It is (in normal times still open, I think trains run on Sundays.

Great pictures again David,  is the automatic signal from the east coast main line?

If it is wonder how that survived as I believe they were replaced in the 1930s

That is a good spot Rob. I would have never noticed it in a month of Sundays. The photo does remind me how much I liked the orange and dark brown livery, though.

I've seen a Flickr image of the blue one, dated 2 October 2016. Details are it was LNER BGP 70754, which became Internal User (IU) 041366. It was preserved in 1991 and, as of the date of the image, was in open storage at the Stephenson Museum. The Wiki page for the North Tyneside Steam Railway lists it as still there 'awaiting restoration'. As a non-passenger vehicle, I do not envisage it is high priority...

 

The red Brake is not listed on the above Wiki page, so I assume it is no longer there. The number on the coach is incomplete in DaveF's photo, my assumption is that it is either ADE32078 or ADE32079  or is a 6-digit number starting with those, and have Googled those numbers without success, so I fear that that coach is no longer extant.

 

EDIT: a more liberal search eventually revealed that it is ADE320797, originally a Brake First, previously numbered E11047E. Departmentals.com has various sightings of it on the Stainmore Raiway, Kirkby Steven. An accompanying picture shows a vehicle stripped to the framework, so it looks like restoration is in progress, hopefully.

I cannot read the label on the photo about the signal, so I can't be sure - and I can't go and look just now!.

Good afternoon, David. I like the photo’s of the Stephenson Museum at Middle Engine Lane, North Shields, on the 19th July, 1987. All are full of interest and historical value. The first photo’ is a great view of the surviving Gresley four compartment BTK with turnbuckle trussing. Thank goodness it has survived, and is now in excellent condition compared to how it was at the time of the photo’.

The Newcastle to Carlisle photo’s are so delightful, and what a good selection of views. In C18742, at Haydon Bridge, on the 28th July, 1993, you have a very professionally composed view which shows the level crossing and box to perfection - a tranquil scene.

The level crossing gates at Winning are interesting, with the motor driven wheel near the outer end. Am I right in remembering something similar near Brough station in the early 80s? I seem to recall they only extended part way across the 4 tracks in existence then, an example of not closing off the railway completely when open to road traffic.

Nice to see 1618 in service; for one or two summers (around 1968-70) I spent one happy evening a week after school with working parties on this loco when it was in Blackhorse siding at New Hythe, on the Aylesford Paper Mill site, it must have been fairly recently delivered from Woodhams. I think I read it was the second loco recovered from Woodhams. Luckily working evenings coincided with the one night a week we were not given homework. With thin arms I got nice jobs like scraping the grease and dirt out from the back face of the tender axle boxes, between the frame and the wheels. Also laying on my back under the tender wire brushing rust off the underside of the tank. I thought the U went to the K&ESR after leaving New Hythe, but surely it was too heavy for that line?

Good evening, David. I like the Tyne and Wear Metro photo’s which are all full of interest. In C7625, wth Byker viaduct, and with Metros in service over it, you can see the Tall ship Sedov on the right, which makes quite a contrast with the urban surroundings on the 17th July, 1986. Indeed, a photo’ which has many other things of interest in it including various buildings etc.

It is 100% 9017 - smallest double line nameplate & Gateshead style and as you say you can make out the '7'

Good afternoon, David. I like the latest York photo’s which are all as interesting as always. York station is such a lovely place, and the perfect background for photo’s of trains. In J9073, of 43074 leading a Newcastle to Kings Cross express, in July, 1987, you have an excellent portrait of the HST whilst it awaits departure time. You can also see that the secondman’s cab door is open - I wonder if there was a check on something being carried out, out of sight of the camera.

Good afternoon, David. I like the Glasgow Central photo’s which all full of interest. In the first photo’ of Glasgow Central Low Level, with 303056, on a westbound service on the 17th February, 1990, you can see, through the doors, a sign about not throwing away tickets. As far as I can recall that’s the first time I’ve seen such a sign. 
The class 87 in the last photo’ on a service to London Euston, on the 26th February, 1994, is looking a bit tatty on the cab end. Definitely in need of a repaint.

C16718: Don't think so, that was just the version of the double arrow used on 'Strathclyde Red' livery. BTW in the book 'BR Coaching Stock in Colour since 1960 (Robert Hendry, Ian Allan 2006) there is a picture of 314215 with what the author believes to be a red double arrow, however this is actually just the less-faded paintwork left when the black double arrow was removed post-privatisation !
