I’ve never been to Morpeth (only through it a couple of times) so I’m not that familiar with the layout but in that picture, if the line on the left is the down goods loop, wouldn’t the HST be an up service?

Yes it should say up - yesterday was not a good day!

I've corrected the caption.

Thanks for this.

Of course it does not show the curve from the north to the Blyth and Tyne forming the triangle as that was only opened in 1980.

When the NBR line was built it connected directly with the Blyth and Tyne, the connection to the north side of the station replaced it when the Blyth and Tyne was bought by the NER.

The 1922 OS 25-inch map (courtesy NLS maps) shows the disused connecting line:

Good evening, David. I like the ECML in Northumberland photo’s from Pegswood. All are of interest, and in J13769, at Shilbottle Lane, with a class 43 leading an up HST in March, 1993, I like how the two trees are framing the bridge. A particularly good composition.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Rock, south of Christon Bank 43050 up going away 25th July 90 C14571.jpg

Nice shot there coming off the transition curve onto the straight.

And not at the more famous Rock, the home of DoomBar, in that other rugged county, Cornwall....

Great B&T photos, Dave. Thanks for sharing.

The railway cottages at South Newsham seen in your 3rd and 4th photos are still there. Here is GBRf 66733 about to run around an Alcan train at the same location.

Good evening, David. I like the latest Blyth and Tyne photo’s, of which all are of interest. In J11778, at South Newsham, 37190, on an Alcan working, in March, 1991, looks good at the head of that train. I’m sure the new model coming later this year from Accurascale will help us all to recreate such scenes on our layouts.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. I like the North Yorkshire Moors Railway photo’s which are all full of interest. In C7829, at Grosmont, with NER P3, number 2390, on the 2nd August, 1986, you have captured, from ground level, a most impressive shot of the locomotive.
The latest Tyne and Wear Metro photo’s have an interest all of their own, and the last photo’ of the Ouseburn viaduct, with  a Metro crossing it, in December, 1982, shows, again, that modern structures can be good compared to Victorian era structures.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Hi Dave, as always the Blyth and Tyne shots are fantastic.

My mate, Smeg, used to live in the cottages at south newsham.

I used to be in the scouts and our scout hut was behind the black diamond pub which is (or was?) Just out of shot to the right of the newsham crossing picture.

Fantastic memories, thanks for sharing.

Good evening, David. I like the latest Newcastle Central photo’s, which show excellent scenes of that ‘Everyday Railway.’ In J9608, with 47471, on a Newcastle to Liverpool service in July, 1988, it can be seen that the antenna on the cab roof has only recently been fitted, since it is very clean compared to the rest of the grimy cab roof.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

David

Happy memories of the smell of warm diesel from the locomotives idling at The Central, I applaud you on the many photographs here as they bring back many memories of living close to the site of Forest Hall station and the variety of locomotives and workings which I took for granted but now are a distant memory along with the sound of a 56 slogging up Benton Bank in the middle of the night on a MGR train which seemed to take forever!

As an aside I used to play football on a Saturday morning as a school event right beside the ECML between FH and Killingworth and the kids I played with were amazed I could tell the difference between a loco out of view coming past us whether it was a 56,37,47 or the odd rarity.

Good to see you back posting pics wondered were you had got .

I've been posting photos here every day just as usual since my last break in 2018!

Had you perhaps accidently clicked on "Ignore this topic" at some time?  AndyY has done some work recently which meant that all the ignored topics became visible again, perhaps that is how I suddenly reappeared.

Good evening, David. I like the Winwick Junction photo’s, from the 9th March, 1996, all of which are of interest. In the last one with 43079 and 43014 on a down HST, the weather has certainly changed and become most cloudy. That must have been a weather front approaching.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. I like the photo’s of the ECML from north of York. All are of interest, and in C20983, at Bradbury, with 91023, on a down service on the 31st May, 1996, the complete train looks so uniform and neat. It’s good to know that it soon will be able to be recreated from the new Hornby models.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.
