eastwestdivide
J12855 - the Mk2 second from the loco is almost certainly 999550, purpose-built recording coach with all sorts of compatibility, including sandwiching between SR EMUs. Still exists with Network Rail's fleet, but I doubt whether it could still be sandwiched between a pair of 2-HAPs!
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 29, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 29, 2021 Good evening, David. That’s a most excellent selection of photo’s of Newcastle. All show different things, and the first photo’ of 142516 and 143605, in August, 1989, shows a quite strange destination indicator box on 142516. I haven’t seen one quite like that before. And in the last photo’, of 91015, on a down service, on the 22nd June, 1992, the left hand side of the cab, where the marker and headlights go, would appear to have something missing from it’s corner unless I’m seeing things. Also the small ‘cover’ above it is either open or missing. It certainly would be interesting to see a model of a 91 so treated. With warmest regards, Rob. 1

It was in the erecting shop at Litchurch Lane in 1975, with the early Mk3 s following hard on its heels. 1

It also used to make regular forays on the WCML included within a normal passenger train. As well as having at least three configurations of window layout and certainly more liveries than that. Not quite a modeller's dream - more a nightmare! 2
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted June 30, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 30, 2021 (edited) Some photos taken at Stocksfield 1988 to 1992 this afternoon. As you will remember Stocksfield is on the line from Newcastle to Carlisle. HSTs were only seen on the line when the ECML was closed between Newcastle and Edinburgh so that trains were diverted via Carlisle. This was usually for engineering work on the ECML. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 30, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 30, 2021 Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Stocksfield on the Newcastle to Carlisle line. In C11868, with 143014, on a Newcastle to Hexham service on the 15th April, 1989, it would appear the drivers side marker light was not working, hence the headlight in use on that side. Jonathan It didn't happen very often at Stocksfield. Riding Mill which is a bit further along the line was better for seeing trains passing each other. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 1, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 1, 2021 Good evening, David. That’s a most excellent selection of photo’s of the ECML in Northumberland. All cover points of interest, and the footbridge at Alnmouth is just a sad sight when it was, prior to electrification, a lovely NER example. Why was it not possible to design something better than that? In J13633, of the former Alnwick station, as at December, 1992, it was looking well preserved, and it’s good to know it’s still all safe and sound as a bookstore. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 2, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 2, 2021 Good evening, David. What a fantastic selection of photo’s starting with the photo’ of Pendennis Castle from 7th April, 1974. Then what a delightful photo’ of a GWR branch line in JVol7257, at Kingsbridge, with a 45xx, on a Kingsbridge to Brent service in August,1948. I can see why such branch lines are so popular with modellers. With warmest regards, Rob.
