Good evening, David. That’s a most excellent selection of photo’s of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the 26th October, 2007, at Grosmont. In  DSC_3326, with the sole remaining class K4, 61994, The Great Marquess, you have captured a delightful three quarters portrait shot of the engine.

The Cumbrian Coast line photo’s from Whitehaven and St Bees from the 30th July, 2004, are excellent, and capture the line at those two stations perfectly. In IMG_4360, at St Bees, with a DRS liveried class 33, 33030, on a down freight train, it can be seen that not all freight trains need be long with this one just three wagons long.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good afternoon, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Cramlington. In J9353, with a class 101 two car unit, number S800, on a Morpeth to Newcastle service in November, 1987, the flurry of exhaust is well caught, and you can see the yellow stripe denoting first class on the DTCL. I had thought that first class had been abolished on all local trains from early 1983, but there must have been some exceptions.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Cramlington Class 101 S800 Morpeth to Newcastle Nov 87 J9353

I'm wondering if the rear vehicle is actually part of S800, because comparing the roof with the leading vehicle, it looks like it has been going the same direction on a roundy-roundy layout for some considerable time....

And on Cramlington Class 143 143005 Newcastle to Morpeth Nov 85 J8460, I like the use of the two generations of electrical warning signs on the same vehicle.

The ECML south of Grantham at High Dyke and Swayfield in black and white for this afternoon.  Simply a few of my photos before I started to take colour slides.

The 1969 photos at High Dyke were probably taken early in January.

Good afternoon, David. That’s a fabulous set of black and white photo’s of  the ECML to the south of Grantham at High Dyke and Swayfield. In DMImageQ06, at High Dyke, with an unidentified class 45 on an up express passenger service in 1969, the third carriage would appear to be a Mk1 first lounge car - they were introduced into service in that year. You can tell from the windows and the different roof vents that it is a carriage with a difference. I have referred to the Mk1 book by Parkin.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

In today’s first picture, would that fourth wagon be a ferry wagon of the type that became TOPS code VIX?

Looks like it probably is, although other country's versions also ran on BR via the train ferry.

The underframe trussing does appear to be right for a VIX....

Thanks for the reminder, Rob. I'd forgotten all about that trio. Easily distinguishable by the four sealed window units on the compartment side of the vehicles.

Good evening, David. That is a fantastic selection of photo’s of the Newcastle to Carlisle line around West Wylam and Stocksfield. In C17954, at Stocksfield, with 153317 and a class 142, on a Newcastle to Carlisle service, on the 26th August, 1992, if I was wanting to travel on that service I would be in the 153 for a better ride quality as well as better seats than the bus seats in the 142.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

P.S. as at the time of typing this I see Flickr has gone off line. I hope it is back very soon.

Good evening, David. It’s good to have RmWeb back again, it seems an age since Wednesday! The photo’s of York are as fascinating as always, and full of nostalgia for myself. In C7657, with the preserved LNER, V2, 4771, Green Arrow, and 08337, on the 28th July, 1986, you can see all too clearly where Bachmann have got those cabside windows too small and widely spaced along with the edge of the footplate being much too thick.

That last photo’ of an unidentified D49/2, Hunt, is so haunting. It’s so hard to think that they were such a common sight on such trains.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Hi David

Great photos as always. Image 4360 the gentleman standing in the door of the class 33 is a friend of mine called Mark Baker. Ex Barrow driver in BR days, he then moved to DRS and to latterly to Preston as a driver for Virgin of Avanti as it now is.

Keep the photos coming

Kind regards

Ian

Good evening, David. What an impressive selection of photo’s of Sunderland Bridge on the ECML. As stated, the first photo’ is truly excellent, with 60022, on a down empty limestone train on the 16th October, 1993. It really is delightful show of all the colours you get on an Autumn day. Try reproducing it on a model, and it can be a bit difficult.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.
