RMweb Premium newbryford Posted August 18, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 18, 2016 Finally, that Glasgow Plymouth service; which route does it take please. Is it through Donny? Phil I believe it is now a footpath at Bingham, but I've not been back to the actual location for over thirty years. The XC train is York, Leeds, Wakefield, Sheffield, Derby etc. Yesterday (the day I took the photos), after I had taken the local details from Real Time Trains it was cancelled beyond Newton Abbot because of "late arrival of an inbound service". Today it ran correctly through to Plymouth. It was an hour late arriving at Newton Abbott yesterday. David Some of the XC services are routed York-Doncaster-Sheffield. Cheers, Mick

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 18, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 18, 2016 Hi, Dave. Excellent photos of the Midland Railway in Derbyshire. In C15314 the sight of 37425 is a sight for sore eyes amidst all the units working the passenger services by that time. You can make it out despite what you had to say about it appearing inconveniently! With warmest regards, Rob.

DavidBird
Going back a bit... ...I must ask about the sidings visible in J1698 at Castle Donnington. I wonder if they were something to do with the nearby power station. ...Rob. I think the sidings were for the power station. David Does this help? RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 19, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 19, 2016 Hi, Dave. I like the photos from Damdykes. Good to see the present day railway getting recorded in photos. And an excellent set of photos from Radcliffe on Trent. I like the two with the trains double headed by pairs of 20's. Plenty of excursion and extra trains were still being run at the time of the photos, which is no longer the case today. With warmest regards, Rob. Guest B Exam
Having consulted the big list of 20 workings I have, we can nail the date as 4th August 1977. 20035+20066 on the 09.30 Nottingham-Skegness. 20135+20068 on the 09.20 Derby-Skegness Also that day 20048+20147 worked the 08.24 Leicester-Skegness. I should of started my bashing days about 6 years earlier.... 20068 and 20147 I never had for haulage! (I managed 165 different 20s for haulage). As for 20035, only had it for haulage in France as it became CFD2001, now repatriated and is a source of spares at the Gloucester and Warwickshire Railway. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted August 20, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) Four at Rugby and one near Rugby today. BR blue days of course. The first photo is one of Dad's, I don't have any further information about it. The four at Rugby were once again taken while travelling on an East Midlands Ranger ticket. The trips were made easier as I was staying at my parents who then lived a few minutes walk from Radcliffe on Trent station which in those days had trains at useful times. These photos were taken on one of the better days for weather. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 20, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 20, 2016 Hi, Dave. A lovely set of photos of Rugby. I like the two with Prometheus. Good to see the test car in use at the front of a service train. The class 312 in C3437 has bare metal surrounds to the cab windscreens. As mentioned a few posts ago, these surrounds clearly varied in finish between units. With warmest regards, Rob.
Jack
Whilst looking for something else (actually photos of Aerolite) I came across the only photos I ever took near Market Bosworth, which show Teddy Boston (of Cadeby) and Audrey with her narrow boat. They are railway photos (just) as the Ashby Canal was bought by the Midland Railway in 1846. Market Bosworth Ashby canal Teddy Boston and Audrey Aug 71 C697.jpg Market Bosworth Ashby canal Teddy Boston and Audrey Aug 71 C697 Dad is on the left of the photo. I reckon we should have a competition to try and find a picture of Teddy not in his dog collar Cracking pictures as usual Dave, thanks for sharing them (including the non-railway ones). Rugd1022
Excellent and very evocative shots of Rugby again Dave, thanks for posting those. In shot C3435, beyond the railway boundary wall you can just see the top of the grass bank and another low brickwall, sometimes I'd sit atop this wall to get a good view of the whole station in my early spotting days back in the '70s. Alas it's long gone now, there's a Tesco Express and a block of 'apartments' on the site now.
