RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2020 Good afternoon, David. I like the Southern photo’s - I don’t recall seeing the first three before, and thank you for posting them. In the last photo’, at Eastbourne with a class 414 unit, 6052, on a Brighton to Hastings service in October, 1981, it’s certainly a come down from a 4 COR unit. But that was BR, short of cash and units as always by that date. With warmest regards, Rob.

You weren't missing much with the photos being monochrome. Flat plain BR Blue livery and small yellow panels - the only relief was the raised Aluminium double arrows... When would they have got the blue paint job as 1967 is quite early?

RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted June 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2020 Blue livery was introduced in 1966, so any stock built after that, like VEPs, REPs, and the TC units were delivered in plain blue as outer suburban units.
BernardTPM
1965. Probably the first in Rail Blue and with double arrows were the AM10 (Class 310) units. Small yellow panels too, of course. 1

It was a regular morning delivery (although the day could vary), which recessed at lunchtime in the West Yard at Peterborough. We would cycle down at lunchtime, from school, to view them. It was a bit hit-and-miss though, with the day varying! A few examples: 5548, hauling 4-CIGs 7389 and 7390 on 20th May 1971; 284, hauling 4-CIGs 7402 and 7403 on 25th August 1971; 358, hauling 4-CIGs 7406 and 7407 on 23rd September 1971; 1513 hauling 4-CIGs 7408 and 7409 on 8th October 1971. All of these were in blue and grey. For some perverse reason, I always seemed to manage to miss the VEP deliveries! 3

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 10, 2020 Good afternoon, David. I like the, mostly, Teesside photo’s which are all of interest. In C18152, at Thornaby, with 60030, running light engine on the 5th December, 1992, you have a great view of what there is behind the radiator grill. Also you can see a bridge under construction which could form the basis of a model. With warmest regards, Rob.

I was getting something out of a scrap allegro and dropped a spanner through a hole in the floor when I went to retrieve it found the car was sitting over a mineshaft and I was writhing about inside sitting on a very rusty floor with many holes! The scrapyard was on the site of Carlin how ironstone mine which closed in 1946 and was rail served from the Skinningrove zigzag, which left the mainline roughly where the picture was taken but due to road improvements and the railway being closed, lifted and reopened slightly differently no trace is visible of it 1 1

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 11, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 11, 2020 Good afternoon, David. I like the photo’s going north from Oxenholme on the WCML. All are of interest, and the first photo’, at Oxenholme, with 86225, on a relief working from Glasgow to Reading, on the 10th August, 1987, makes quite a sight looking so shiny and clean after what must have been a repaint. The carriages too, look just as clean and shiny. With warmest regards, Rob.

That day I'd taken some photos of the station, realised I had a headache and found a Boots to buy some Paracetamol. Just along the road was a camera shop with (for those days) a very good selection of digital cameras - I ended up with a Canon A70 which had a massive 3 million pixel sensor. RMweb Premium keefer Posted June 11, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 11, 2020 funny how quick technology moved on in the 2000s. in 2003 or 4, I bought a Nikon Coolpix 3200 compact camera for £120 quite expensive for me but the going rate for that sort of thing. 3.2M 'effective' pixels in full compressed mode and took 2 or 3 seconds to process the shot, 3x optical and 10x digital zoom. To be honest, I just kept it in the 1.6M pixel mode which gave pics that were 2048 x 1600 (?) pixels. This also meant it didn't totally gorge the 2 x AA batteries. I still have it and I still have many pics taken with it - they are so sharp and clear even when enlarged many times on screen or print. in recent years, cameras then phone cameras. were/are pushed with how many megapixels they have (like how many bhp your car has). my phone is something like 8M pixels, fine - however as soon as you zoom in at all, the image breaks up and pixellates i.e. it's a crap lens or sensor which just does not capture the detail. Sorry for the diversion Dave, just made me think back to when digital was becoming popular (and affordable) how expensive it seemed! Now you can buy pocket cameras with 20M pixels, Bluetooth, GPS, HD, effects, and on and on - but if the glass and sensor aren't up to it then the pics will suffer. Just like the old days really - crap lens and crap film gave crap results! 2
35A
Minor correction, Dave. C26294 is a five-car set, which would make it a 221, rather than a 220. Lovely set of pictures. 86 225 looks resplendent in its new coat of paint.
