ben pez
Years ago, probably late 1980s I can remember a steam loco tender sat in thornaby yard,it was clearly visable from the roadside that passed along the yard. I was told that it was used for storing either oil or weedkiller?? Does anyone know which loco tender it was from? Or even have a photograph of it? Many thanks
ian b
It was an LNER tender- possibly K3 or B1. My Dad worked there for many years- I'll ask if he took any shots of it!
Fat Controller
It wasn't used as a load bank, was it? Gateshead had a tender of similar origins used as such; I never got a chance to look too closely, but I think the coal space was covered over, and drawgear fitted at both ends. Bon Accord
This is possibly an LNER group standard tender (ex V2) which I think survived and ended up in a local scrapyard, where it remains intact (as per mention in a Steam Railway recently).
Bulleidnutter
There was a LNER grouping standard tender just outside Doncaster on the Sheffield line but from memory the B17 Sandringham group snapped it up but nothing has been heard about the tender since.
