To add to my 1921 trailer and 1913 motor I have started to scratch build the 1921 motor for my 5 car Circle Stock set.

As with the others, the roof is from the Radley Models dreadnoughts. The chassis is from the T stock kit and the bogies from the 1904 BWE Camel back loco (like the real ones!)

Progress photos will be posted as it progresses. I have the first side virtually completed.

Because the Metropolitan Saloon Stock had a slope into the body from the waste down there needs to be a composite type construction. This is reflected in the design of this car. The following photos show the two part body side which also incorporates the flat sliding doors and helps form the curve.

That method is explained in David Jenkinson's book about building carriages. Although he worked in 7mm, many of the techniques are applicable to any scale. Well worth a look if you're considering having a go.

Would that be 'Carriage Modelling made easy'?
