Peter Kazmierczak
There's more London Underground overground, than beneath the surface. Tought I'd create this thread where you can post Underground trains (tube and surface stock) overground. To start, here's a southbound Bakerloo line train meeting a northbound Virgin Pendolino. I wonder if the tube driver ever feels slightly apprehensive as a fast Pendolino passes on a close adjacent track, almost towering above them? RMweb Gold 4630 Posted June 8, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 8, 2014 The shape of things to come for the next 40 years on the Metropolitan Line. S8 21078 at Watford platform 2 waiting to form train 424, the 20:33 all stations to Baker Street, on 26th May 2014. I guess that a member of LU train staff might have been having a joke with S8 21014 which is stabled in Watford 24 siding, judging from the destination and line indicator. RMweb Gold 4630 Posted June 8, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 8, 2014 Look forward to seeing them Stewart; I know nothing about the Underground. If you're interested in learning more about the Underground Peter, these internet resources are very useful if you haven't already seen them; http://www.districtdavesforum.co.uk http://www.trainweb.org/tubeprune/ Tubeprune hasn't been updated for a good while, but many of the pages are useful from a historical view point. I can also recommend joining London Underground Railway Society (LURS). http://www.lurs.org.uk I hope that helps.
Peter Kazmierczak
Wembley Park approaching 10pm. Within half an hour the area will be filled with tens of thousands of "One Direction" fans heading home. Must say the organisation to handle such crowds is quite slick and works well. RMweb Gold 4630 Posted June 8, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 8, 2014 A few more photographs to add. Late May last year I was looking to take a few photos of the integration of new S7 stock onto the Hammersmith & City line, interworking with C stock, which at that time was still operating on some H&C trains. All Circle line trains at that time were still worked by C stock. These photos were taken at Wood Lane and Hammersmith. C Stock 5509 at Wood Lane C Stock 5584 at Hammersmith The old and the new at Hammersmith S7 21316 on an H&C working to Barking C Stock 5551 on a Circle line working C Stock 5501 - the first one, together with 5704 on Hammersmith depot. The distortion of the perspective induced by the telephoto lens suggest that Peco set track turnouts would work well in a model of the depot ! stewartingram
1st offering from me, starting off in a small way with the Bakerloo line. For those that are not aware, I work as a maintenance contractor over the whole system, so none of my photos were trespass shots. A lot however were phone camera pics, I sometimes have to grab them when I can. Generally I'll stay away from the "underground" shots, and not all will be trains - there's a lot of interesting things to see on the Underground! Bakerloo line: I'll sort out another line soon, probably the Central. Stewart

stewartingram
This is intersting, I know next to nowt about the doings of the Underground really, so its good to see what it is all about Indulge yourself Mickey. I used to think it wasn't a proper railway, I know better now! In fact I reckon they could teach the Big Railway a few things... Stewart
stewartingram
Wembley Park on the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines. On the right horizon can just be made out the BT Tower and to its right, the Shard. There's a signal on that dive-under from the depot, where a problem was reported with poor radio reception. I got the job of going into the depot to take some readings (basically a continual scan through the area, recorded on a laptop). When I met the DDM (Duty Depot Manager, he informed me that it was beyond the limit of his depot, on the main line. So unable to test it...? Wait 20 mins he said, grab a coffee in the canteen... 20 mins later, he said "Your train is ready in the siding, my deputy will drive it". So over to the old A stock we went (it was about 5 years ago), and we both climbed into the cab.. Clearance came from the signaller, I started recording and through the dive-under we went. I took the recording as far as Wembley Central, where we had a green, so I stayed on board for the ride. All the way to Amersham, and back, non-stop, on a glorious summer day with the windows open. Came back on the fast line too. This job does have its boring moments. Stewart
stewartingram
I will be doing Though I reckon those battery locos look a bit like a class 66 drawn by someone who i/ cant draw very well and ii/ has heard of one but not really seen one Actually the Battery Locos were drawn in N gauge, and upscaled to 4mm for the class 66....with all the inaccuries that presents. Halfway down the stock shed on the left, I got called to investigate "a fallen radio aerial" (everyone knows we don't use aerials, professional users have antenna systems lol). So I boarded the cab of a train at Goldhawk Road, and explained to the driver. "No problem mate" he said, approaching the site with even more caution than normal. As soon as we spotted the aerial, he stopped, and opened the front door for me so I could photograph it. Don't know what the passengers behind thought of the delay! Oh, and the aerial was a TV aerial for (presumably) a mess room! Nothing to do with the radio system at all! Stewart
cromptonnut
I always enjoy the commentary on this one from people who clearly have no concept of the fact that the tube needs maintenance as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbzPYA6dvWg
Peter Kazmierczak
Little and Large (remember them.....)? What puzzels me is the height of the platforms at stations jointly used by tube trains and more standard-size stock. Does one have to step down into the tube train, climb up into other stock? Or is the platform height somewhere between the two?
stewartingram
You are right, up for 1, down for the other. Though with the progressive introduction of step-free disabled access, the Underground is introducing a ramp in a standardised position, which lines up with the tube stock, tbh not sure if this applies yet on shared lines. stewartingram
This time I've gone to the East end of the Central line.First though, here is one I missed earlier out West at White City. Sandite train at Theydon Bois Sandite at Theydon Bois, again ex GER. The Sandite train, viewed from a passing train at Hainault depot. Another one I missed earlier, is this the track profile train?
