sandwich station
Have the 57's been put into normal service now then. I thought they originally came about as a rescue unit for failed stock? Hence some originally being given Thunderbirds names.

I thought they originally came about as a rescue unit for failed stock? Hence some originally being given Thunderbirds names. 57/3s - The Thunderbirds - are now spread far and wide, DRS have some, Network Rail have some and West Coast Railways have some. Virgin hire them off DRS if they require drags
Swifty11
Ok then chaps, some 57's at Carnforth 12 July 2012 - WCR 57005 awaiting a repaint NB - some of these photos have been posted in other threads, but still Kind regards Ian Hi Ian, 57005 is broken, needs some rather expensive repair to its engine so at least for the time being its a spares donor as they don't need to overhaul it currently as the 57/3s arrived. Beast, Virgin permanently have 5 on hire from DRS who have a 6th as a spare. But they are taking the Network Rail ones so 57301 has been/is being fixed) ready to come north. Only 305 has actually been signed off as DRS and re allocated from the QADD pool.

Hi Swifty11 That will be what (47 or 57) is in a green under coat in the yard adjacent to Carnforth North Junction then. Guess what my next photo on here may be??? Glorious NSE
One nice thing this summer is that these are coming out to play in daylight on Summer Saturdays! 57605 runs back into Exeter St Davids with the stock for Saturday evenings return to Penzance. Good opportunity for me to add to my detail photo's!
Glorious NSE
Retro bodysnatchers... 57601 blasts past Exeter St Thomas with a Great Western loco hauled set, June 2001 57305 'John Tracy' waits in the bay at Bletchley in June 2003, before it's unfortunate nose job. Hadn't been there more than about 15 minutes when it was called into action to assist a poorly Patriot (87003) which had coasted in with the pan down! And 57003, 57009 and 57007 don't seem to be talking to the new guy...Ipswich in April 2007...

Swifty11
As of this week 57301/303/310 are now XHAC (DRS) Leaving (by the looks of it) just 57306/312 in QADD NR pool. Probably not for long! 57301/303/305/310 XHAC (not pendo compatible DRS general use pool) 57306/312 QADD (NR loco pool, not pendo compatible) 57302/304/307-309/311 XHVT (Virgin hire pool, these locos have full dellner equipment for pendolino coupling jobs) 57301/57306 both have tightlock couplers fitted, 57301 was recently noted without its tightlock so a possible return to full dellner may happen. All NR livery locos have a different coupling arangement to the DRS livery examples.
Cornish Triang Paul
305 still has its couplers but in use with FGW short term sub-hire as well known. Some nice shots here. is there a club/group of sorts for 57s ?

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted July 12, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 12, 2014 (edited) I suppose I'd better add this one from last weekend's TdF shuttles then. 57308 at Blackburn - complet with Tour de France stickers under the nameplate And a few views of 57307. Dellner detail - coupled to a Pendo at Preston for the nightly 5H00 ECS drag to Longsight. A very grey day - 57307 minus nameplates after being transfrerred to DRS. On 0C99 Preston-Carlisle. And in full DRS Cable thieves livery at Kingmoor open day in 2014. Cheers, Mick Edited July 12, 2014 by newbryford
