One that I thought I had posted previously, but clearly not. All taken on 12 August 2017.

57314 sits by the blocks at Paddington, after bringing in the empty coaches for a railtour.

Traction for the tour was this beast!

There were a few 57s visible on the journey out, passing Old Oak Common.

A few of my amateur photos in case they are of use to someone.  Starting with DRS locos:

57003 and 004 with subtly different headcode box panels, seen at York on 9th December 2010...

...from the other end...

...and the coupled cabs.

And finally, a teeny-tiny DRS 57 on a fairly rare container working at Colton Junction, showing what happens if you try to be greedy and photograph two trains at once: a poor picture of each!  3rd August 2012.

Cheers,

Will

The theme of this post is very poor photography from my early efforts with a primitive digital camera, but I'm including them in case they happen to capture anything of interest to 57 fans...

Another 57 has already dropped onto the country end to take the empty stock on to Old Oak Common, but unfortunately I didn't note its number.

Some recent 57s from me. Linked from Flickr so feel free to click to make them big, if thats your thing!

2021.

57312 5Q76 Westerleigh

Rail Operations Group's 57312 passes Westerleigh Junction working 5Q76 Worksop - Newport Sims Group with 8 Mk4 vehicles in tow, including DVT 82219.

57312 5Q76 Winterbourne

57312 passes Winterbourne with another pair of 'Dusty Bins' for scrapping, 321359 and 321355 the unlucky candidates this week. The working was 5Q76 Clacton Carriage Sidings - Newport Docks Sims Group.

91s to Newport for scrap

Seen from near Broad Lane, 57305 has just passed over Westerleigh Junction with 91129, 91113, 91126 and 91102 in tow working 0Q76 Doncaster Belmont - Newport Docks Sims Group, taking the ex East Coast machines for scrap. I stumbled across this angle, and stuck with it to show off the distinctive silhouette of the class 91s. Not a shot I'm 100% happy with, as the train wasn't hanging around and with the strong wind blowing I had next to no warning of this appearing, but uploaded as a record of the movement. With a short-ish gap, one to retry with the Bridgwater flasks perhaps.

2022.

57605 5C99 Horfield Junction, Lockleaze

An unusual daylight sleeper move through Bristol as 57605 drops down Filton Bank at Lockleaze working 5C99 from Reading Depot to Long Rock Depot in Penzance. When the sleeper needs moving as empty stock during the day, it usually seems to run via the B&H route.

57316 5Z61 World's End Lane (Clay Overbridge)

After reversal at Bristol East, WCRC's 57316 'Alnwick Castle' leads 5Z61 Bath Goods - Bath Spa, heading for a second reversal at Chippenham, seen between Keynsham and Satlford.

Oh for an HST...

A reminder of the quality we used to have with the HSTs, the Night Riviera sleeper offers the last slam door Mk3s in regular TOC usage. While the FGW refurbished HSTs were hardly the pinnacle of comfort the Mk3 design could offer, they were still a world better than the harsh ride and rock hard seats offered on their replacements, the Hitachi built and UK government specified 'Intercity Express Trains', of which 800309 is a member. 57604 sits atop 5A50, the empty sleeper stock back to Reading depot after working up from Penzance overnight behind 57605. A class 345 unit on the recently opened Elizabeth Line, or Crossrail, service sneaks into view in the background completing the scene of Paddington in 2022.

Finally one from today.

57305 + 57605 5R40 Keynsham

A quick dash a few minutes from home, keeping dry under the road bridge as the precipitation tries to decide whether to keep falling as snow or to turn to rain. 57605 on the Up sleeper failed in Cornwall last night, so a daytime drag was required to get the set in place to work down to Penzance tonight. Former Rail Operations Group 57305 in base coat blue livery leads 57605 and set PZ88 through Keynsham on 5R40 Plymouth - Reading Depot.
