Sir Madog
I can hardly await to see the MDS RhB Ge 4/4 II next to the Kato version. Both play round and about in the same league, concerning pricing, with a slight topping for MDS, buying you separately applied hand rails both at the doors and the loco front, plus some finer detail on the roof and the pilot. For the aficionados of Rhaetian Railways, it´s a much cheaper alternative to Bemo´s offerings. Mind you, the price of a Bemo Ge 4/4 II in DC only buys you the MDS one including DCC & Sound, without really sacrificing on visible detail. What´s still lacking is a selection of 1/150 scale buildings. Stadt im Modell - a German manufacturer of laser-cut building kits, has announced a number od typical RhB buildings in N scale, but I am not sure about the actual scale of them. Faller´s "Stugl/Stuls" and "Langwies" station buzilding are actually even smaller than !/160 scale!
RMweb Premium MrTea Posted February 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2018 Thanks VanBasten. That GE 4/4ii looks fabulous. Will have to get a move on with planning my 1:150 RhB layout!
Satan's Goldfish
Well after Parcelfarce spent a week ignoring the redirects they promised to deliver by 10am today, . . So their clocks appear to be 2hrs 29 min slow! Anyway this was in the packet IMG_9687.JPG Popped them in order in the bigger box. As far as I know, Stadt im Modell will produce their N buildings in 1:155 scale - that's smart, as they will cover both the markets (Nm and Kato scale)...

Gordonwis
Some more stuff... Longest freight train so far assembled Formation: tanker, container well wagon, Valser van, tanker, bogie flat with pipes, Co-op van, bogie flat with timber EWII seemlessly coupled to Kato EWI http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/84566-paspels/'> Overall view of my layout. Since its appearance at Eurotrack last year and ready for Boulogne last November I replaced the old ‘St Niklaus’ station building with the Kato Filisur, but with a modified roof to make it more like the lowland stations. My layout is based in the Domleschg so I have carefully studied Rodels - Realta and the re-roofing is based on this research (less overhang due to less risk of deep snow I assume) I also replaced the Kestrel / foam board platforms with the Kato Glacier Express platforms which work very well with unitrack, especially the ramps and foot crossing parts http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/84565-paspels/'> Edited February 6, 2018 by Gordonwis
Gordonwis
Are they planning on doing the baggage van too for you Paul? My Ds van running seemlessly with Kato EWI At the Boulogne show I was able to replicate a standard 7 coach Albula RE formation including Ds van for the first time

Gordonwis
In the meantime, I have taken delivery of one of each of the two versions of Hai** van from TT Trams/Shapeways. I know MDS are about to issue RTR ones, but the Shapeways ones are a different variant, and I plan to use already prepared 'stick on sides'. I prepared the 'stick on' sides for us on bashed about Roco Hbis vans, which worked up to a point, but the stick on sides will be much better when fitted onto the otherwise accurate body of the Shapeways ones. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted March 7, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2018 I decided to put my new arrival alongside the Bemo HOm version. Obviously the HOm one is the older round headlight version but it makes a nice comparison and shows how nice the Kato Nm9 one is. This does show the lack of relief to the wheels with the override gauge but it doesn't spoil the look.

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted March 11, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11, 2018 ... which allows the loco to negotiate a 150mm radius, but who needs that? Gordonwis
... which allows the loco to negotiate a 150mm radius, but who needs that? Quite a few people I expect. If not for visible parts of a layout, useful for hidden sidings/fiddle yards Edited March 13, 2018 by Gordonwis
wollastonblue
... which allows the loco to negotiate a 150mm radius, but who needs that? It'll probably shock but I need it to negotiate Tomix 140mm Radius. The original Glacier Express has no problems with it. Also received from Japan, yesterday, Kato are now going to offer a DCC Sound Board for the GE 4/4 III!
