Does anyone know how many diagram 92 TSO’s were built, how long they lasted and whether any survived into preservation. I imagine, being effectively non standard, they had relatively short working lives.

Stephen

Hi Stephen

21, all allocated to the LMR when new M3700 to M3720 quite a few ended up on the ER, a couple on the ScR and 3701 was the only one ever to be transferred to the WR , then the SR  and back to the WR. They were withdrawn between the early 70s and 80s.  A few becoming departmental coaches. None appear to have survived into preservation.

There were 14 similar bodied diagram 56 RSOs, allocated to all regions except the ScR . E1000 to E1002, M1003 to M1005, S1006, W1007 to W1013 many were transferred to other regions during their term in service. Withdrawal was earlier for these starting in 66 and ending in 77. Many passed into departmental use. One became a cinema coach for showing training films to BR staff. It looks like 3 have been preserved.

Both types were very early BR builds, 1951 to 1952, so what looks like early withdrawal dates for Mk1 coaches they did have a reasonable length of time transporting passengers.

Last night there was no action in the play room. I attended a club meeting at the Lincoln and District club. They made me feel welcome and I enjoyed the evening. Next week I think I will be joining them.

I'm goin darn sowf to look at some properties the same weekend as the Fareham Club Show, and they have been very warm and friendly towards my possible arrival, including an invite to a Saturday Night get together / Social.

Hope you enjoy the new Club mate.

It is all action tonight.

The first trains are a local to Doncaster and a York via Leeds express. The York train is a six car Met Cam lash up of a 4 car with buffet and a two car Rolls Royce engined pair. The Doncaster train looks superb, a Brush type 2 at the head of a six coach non gangway set.

I have a problem..........Where have I put the shoe box with useful screws and other bits and bobs? Blowed if I can find it.

Don't you have a filing system for all your boxes, like alphabetical order, or order of importance, or just ?:P

Not speaking to you Jim,

Could have had a club meet round Mr Wright's. Should have let me know I would have asked Tony if I join you all.

The Lincoln club are a wee bit different to the Witham gang, they have layouts they are working on and you have to pay to be a member.

I apologise Clive for failing to inform you of our visit.

I blame myself for being too busy fixing everyone's broken shelves, cupboards, toilets etc because no one does d-I-y anymore it seems. Plus broken trains from our local model shop and Colin G!

Perhaps we should find time to visit you one day.

Jim.

I have just finished this mornings stable duties thought I would check on RMweb to find I had 23 notifications.  They were all from Rambling Rich, thank you Rich.

There are so many nice people on RMweb who interact with each other and me which makes this a nice forum to belong to.

Thanks for that. Googling BR mk1 coaches produced no photos of the dia 92 SO, one of an RSO and the fact that the boat seconds were diagram 90. Happy modelling.

Stephen,

Here you go. A photo a TSO M3705, extracted from 'The Coaching Stock of British Railways' 1978 edition. I only hope it's the side you were looking for ...

A few remained listed in the Coaching Stock books up to 1981, but none are listed in the 1983 version.

While we are on about TSOs here is the progress I have made with my cut and shut Thompson TSO. The chassis is a modified Tri-ang one with Kirk bogies. The sides are from a Tri-ang/Hornby Thompson SO, I have tried to put a little bit of a tumbleholme on the lower half. The ends and roof are scratchbuilt, hopefully the roof will end up with a nearly right profile.

Our first two trains are the postal to Bradford where it joins the Leeds to Cardiff postal via Manchester and Crewe. The other train is a Manchester to Sheffield express formed of 2 4 car NER units. These will return to the NER as the Harrogate and York train, dividing at Leeds.

The Manchester train leaving the sidings.

While they are rotating around the room, the disposal loco crew are busy taking D5211 to the fuel point.

Green light at last. Until I make suitable signals with both mainline and shut heads I will have to do with just mainline ones.

The disposal crew leave the Type 2 at the headshunt while they shuffle the other locos out the way to make room at the fuel point for D5211.

016a.jpg.cdbdc340497c230f82a8d67034004668.jpg

It is now being refueled (use your imagination for the fuel point and pumps, please).

017a.jpg.e3c62d7d32b5c9aa81b2a7025360fe47.jpg

The Manchester train arrives.

018a.jpg.599e6ccfd05d08e0951ec1bcd84d87e0.jpg

It snakes its way through the point work to platform 6.

019a.jpg.1a3dc7304d8cbe7032d48f3969ab46e4.jpg

Another view point, I think long DMUs weaving their way across the throat looks good. I am pleased with achieving this.

Finally the postal arrives at Bradford, well the Manchester sidings via the Dore Bridge cross over.
