I upset people who suggest seeing a tribute act.

They can get stuffed.

I have seen them live, their penultimate concert in 1983.

Spot on. I'll listen to my vinyl LPs rather than go to any tribute act for any band, thank you very much.

Hi Martin,

I once went to see a Jimi Hendrix tribute act in a Pub Bolton about 17 years ago.

Things were going really well until the poor chap 'Jimi' got out his Zippo to set fire to his guitar and the flint fell out. H estood looking quite embarrased for a second or two before a kind fellow from the gathered stepped forward and handed 'Jimi' a box of matches, unfortunately the head of the first match crumbled, the second match broke but the third was finally successful. Everyone fell about laughing including 'Jimi' who got the giggles at his cock up and had to have a short rest to compose himself.

I saw them live as well superb beyond words. I also saw their reunion on the 20th anniversary of Phil’s death . Unbelievable rubbish . I love Scott Gorham and Brian Downey is more or less my favourite rock drummer but Phil was the irreplaceable catalyst that held it all together.

I first saw them at Bedford Teacher Training College 1974. It was in the Students Union hall. My mate was a member of the SU but not at that college and I was at Ipswich Civic College but not a SU member. They let him reluctantly. I fumbled in my wallet and found my college library card and muttered to the guy on the door "I will have  go home and get my SU card. " " In you go mate, you don't need to go all the way back to Ipswich". My mum's house was just around the corner. It was a great gig, the down side my mate never got off with the girl who a few nights before had told him about the gig, his reason for going.

I must have seen them about eight or ten times.

Although we were a 50's / 60's / 70's covers Band, we never considered ourselves as a Tribute act in any way, we were so bad we couldn't, we would have been sued, haha.:D

I have to visit the National Archive in Redruth in February, because one of the documents I need to study for my Doctorate is housed there rather than in Kew...

I am staying in Camborne for a couple of nights.  I know what else is in Camborne...

Anything else train related I could look at while I am there?

:D

There is the train station - but all you'll get is a procession of Green things with the odd splash of purple.

I've heard there is a little model shop there, but it's not often open being such a small shop in a small village there probably isn't much call for visitors but you never know.   If only they had the internet in Cornwall.

Er, not really.

Helston Railway  are closed until March.

Bodmin & Wenford timetable is not showing yet, so I guess they are closed too.

Moseley Heritage Museum is a real trip back into your childhood's toy chest - if they are open

Hayle Model Railway club are open Monday's & Thursday evenings

Hope that's of some help :)

Non-railway related:

Michell's Engine House & East Pool Mine (Pool)

Pendennis Castle - by the sea

St Mawes Castle - by the sea

St Michael's Mount - in the sea...

Chips are good from the Atlantic Café at Portreath, but it is right on the beach.

Cornwall is not the best at holiday promotion.

We had an eclipse a few years ago, but they held it on a very cloudy day.

We've got Lands End and the Lizard point, but they've put them at the very end of the county.

Tintagel has a new bridge, but only between two piles of rock, nowhere useful.

The A30 used to have a special low railway bridge to catch out anyone with a vehicle higher than a Lotus Elan - that was fun being caught in the tailbacks.

I could go on... (and probably will, later).

And put a wall around it so you can't get there

To be fair, it's free to get in.  But parking is extremely expensive and there are double yellow lines for at least a couple of miles on the approach.

And all the attractions are expensive too.  Even having your piccy taken with the signpost.
