Hi Folks,

I'm confused, if this lot were supposed to be have been any good, how come the stadium is completely empty ?

Gibbo.

Years ago, when Carl Palmer was reported to have the most expensive drum kit in the world, I was at a Buddy Rich concert when Carl Palmer was in the audience. The following banter took place between Buddy Rich on the stage and Carl Palmer at the back of the hall with 4000 people listening:

Buddy : I heard you on the radio the other night

Carl : Oh, Good what did you think of it ?

Buddy : I thought it was great.............if you like the sound of a cat being strangled

Audience: Cheering.

Never understood progressive rock myself . Didn’t seem to progress anywhere most of the time, except dead ends.

Hi Jazzer,

It is said that there is no accounting for taste, this is true. Better yet that statement works both ways. Funnier still, Philistine that I am, I have just had to Google search Buddy Rich to find out who he was and what he actually did.

Musical snobbery, love it !

I'm the worst person to advise anyone on musical taste - as I don't really listen to music at all - but a friend of mine once described the Prog Rock era as, "A competition between musicians to see who could get the most equipment onto a stage".

The 70's keyboard player usually won.

IIRC Rick Wakeman even had a roadie hiding amongst his equipment to keep it adjusted during the set.

Hi Gibbo. I have a Buddy Rich album with a very profound comment on the sleeve that will probably appeal to you more than most , although most misunderstood toy train freaks will get the point if they ponder on it :-

“ If a man is out of step with his companions , perhaps it’s because he is marching to different drummer “.

That  little saying has preserved my sanity over the years :)

One of my favorite songs. I still like some pre-punk stuff.

As for musical taste we all differ, I don't think this Covid stuff has helped many acts in the past year, this lot should be headlining festivals with their sound, I hope one day they do.

Hi Jazzer,

Ha !  That quote is me all up ! I always think of the Schopenhauer's wisdom for similar reasons, "The recognition of madness even in oneself is the true path to sanity."

I also like these two form Carl Jung:

"The pendulum of the mind alternates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong."

"The masses are always breading grounds for psychic epidemics."

Good day on evilbay. Someone put a class 105 DC kits up for sale, so buy it now at £33. Just arrived, complete kit including the etched bit.

Result

Feeling like the cat with the cream ATM.

Hi Chessy

Lucky you. I should keep my eye on E-bay as I would like a DC kits Cravens, it has the correct brake van arrangement for a 112 or 113.

I am thinking do I make a 113 out of it. But I was so going to try and make a Craven's out of cutting up a MK1 as they did use the mk1 profile on their DMU s.

Must finish my 120 cut and shut first.

Hi Cheesy

I have just been offered a DC kit so a 113 is on the books, for the Preston to Sheffield Exchange stopper.

I done started a Tri-ang to Cravens cut and shut many years ago. It was badly damaged when the shelf its box was on collapsed. It has been repaired and is up and running but still needs to be finished.

Hi Dave,

Here is a bit of DMU porn for you:

I quite tempted by these EMU's though especially the 502's:

Better do some saving up first though, and perhaps sort out all my other unfinished stuff more like it !!!

Crikey, I'd want paying to make that journey in a bug unit!

Mike.

Hi Mike,

There was a train that ran between Blackpool and Leeds which stopped at every station. It took the station announcer an age to list all the stops and taken for ever to get to leeds.

There was a Leeds - Morecambe which I only ever braved/suffered to Carnforth.

Current task are 3 Swindon IC power cars, 1 intermediate and 2 end, first intermediate in on sheet 1 with corridor first and corridor first buffet.

The first body to be assembled will be the 120 Trailer buffet, slowly aquiring Triang roofs and floors. Will be setting the bogies and some of the sides. Keeping any BSK sides and any whole RMBs
