I have seen those prices, and that is just for the body shell, no under gubbins, no motor, no DCC lights no wheels and no bogies.

Hi Clive,

DCC !!!

You are quite correct they are a bit steep although I have to say If I wanted a 504 I'd use Mk1 suburbans and scratch build the cabs, but then I have the ability to do so.

Also. don't tell that Dave Cheesysmith fellow this, I once had the pleasure of living in Bury and while there my boss scrapped one of the 304mm/foot scale sets that was offered free to a good home, what a lot of bother that caused at the time.

Been listening to music and running trains.

Some views of the fuddle yards and the stabling point.

Look they are all in the same livery. :swoon:

Another view on the Manchester Sidings.

005.jpg.b12c9b757932f8de9ffeba1141006b04.jpg

All in the same livery in the Doncaster Sidings as well.

003.jpg.9f741bc5a9a39c8621e0bc5bdf99d0db.jpg

Locos at the buffer stops, Lion is allowed to be painted like she is. 10203 is a old model hand crafted by me, last night she looked wonderful on the train she was pulling.

Now the stabling point.

007.jpg.68ec7aad63e078e2a53b778968b9d128.jpg

No the Type 2 hasn't smashed the buffers, I need to get my act together and make a beam across the uprights.

A couple of departures and some loco moves.

First to leave is a Type 2, this is out the box as given to me by Mr Duck (Mallard60022)

010.jpg.5e303a962404a43da9053bad54eef725.jpg

It didn't run well so I had to stop it, give it a clean and oil. How long ago did Phil last whop volts through it?

011.jpg.5b1ee095cc09f4dbddd4984c3ce2ca8d.jpg

From another angle we see pass the green signal.

012.jpg.03ada08185028999cfab9921ec0aaae2.jpg

The signal had returned to danger by the time the last coach passed it.

Hot on its heels was D8202 with a non gangway set.

013.jpg.49d4dbfd9abe97e93013a17d5ddc4dc1.jpg

015.jpg.135c101eb4423d2b84f7378e5178d9c9.jpg

The yellow signal it is approaching is warning the driver that he has to stop on arriving at the signal for Doncaster Junction and the main line.

016.jpg.5fc807d8a5a4b6fc1ec6e4b128c1d742.jpg

The Type two has untangled itself from buffer stop and is departing the stabling point ready to be attached to a train.

018.jpg.1dac216897cc8e599b1106243fe22e80.jpg

As soon as the shunter has coupled up the type 2 on platform 4 he has to dash over to platform 2 to do the same with a 2000.

D8404 driver is waiting for the signalman to change the points so he can back down on to the stabling point and then have his lunch.

All is now quite for a short time, half the station is deserted.

Out on the mainline our intrepid photographer is able to capture these shots.

D10 Tryfan on a train composed of coaches all of the same colour :swoon:

As he pans around he gets a shot of D10 and D1100 , has the BR numbering system gone binary.

025.jpg.4059c41985679f5156b45d3fc769f97e.jpg

For regular viewers of this thread D1100 has a normal Mortimore train.

There seems to be a lot of trainspotters with their Box Brownies out today and D10 seems to popular. here are several vies of its arrival.

026.jpg.479f5d4f18e41354f994ef3e95e89938.jpg

A very lucky shot this one taken by young Mick from the top of deck of the bus as it crosses the railway.

I never tier of views of trains snaking across the station throat.

Some cheesy person managed to get this shot.

As the passengers on D10's train are about to open the doors our trainspotting gang sees D1100 arrive. It is held up at the signal for a very short time.

It glides into platform 8.

There is more.....

Still out on the mainline our intrepid photographer is in shock.

034.jpg.0601a33b78e0130b6012ed1b01e440a8.jpg

For the second time in one day a Peak (D186) has a train all in the same livery, what is going on. :swoon:  :swoon:

Mean while at the station there is a WTF moment when this appears

036.jpg.1e185d7f7e2b07eb3319bc488d604d92.jpg

A green Bone.

037.jpg.17e6d9cb3f0f448ed6c48c38107fa860.jpg

Normality is restored as the Big Sulzer arrives.

038.jpg.1491e011ef76fd354f91c4728633b0cd.jpg

I think young Mick's bus must have broken down. He has photo graphed the train form a different angle.

039.jpg.f2960fe393a328411b8cc34abcdd792e.jpg

A rare moment at Sheffield Exchange all the platforms are full.

Like the mono liveried trains, but blue would still be better. That DC kits went for £135 notes, and it wasn't even a 504. It was the two driving coaches of a 304.

Pity my replica cut and shuts are not worth that much lol.

I now think I have enough bits to make one of every class of MK1 AC EMU built. And that does include the 303 and 311. Have experimented using Trix sides, the window size is spot on.

Summery of tonight's operating session.

I have already mentioned the Type 2 Phil gave me needed a bit of TLC.

One derailment on Doncaster Junction, the train being pulled by D1100 derailed. It had been running around for some time and after being put back on the track it didn't do it again.

D10 was making loads of noise but wasn't going anywhere fast. It had lost its traction tyres, some replacements were found and she ran lovely after that.

No operator major errors, some signals not replaced to danger and some trains passed some at danger when they should have been cleared. I can hear all the railwaymen and ex railwaymen :shout: at me. One time I forgot to isolate a loco and it tried to plough into the concourse when power was applied to another loco on a different section. A couple of times I hadn't switched the power on to the tracks and the train stopped. And one occasion I hadn't changed a point on the running line and the train stopped as it approached. That was good for me because some nights all that can happen to one train.  OK every train.

Conclusion, concentrate and no dancing to a good tune when I should be changing points, switching on or off track sections and changing signals. Otherwise an enjoyable running session.

I so wish the Covid restrictions could be lifted so I can share my fun with others. You will have to wait until they are lifted and I feel it is safe for visitors.

That's alright if you like your models made out of sanding blocks.

It's about time Shapeways bought some decent 3D machines, it's not like there aren't any out there.

Question. I have acquired two unmade DC kits 108 bodies. What do a make from them?

Chop them into something else or build them as unpowered dummies? Already got some bachy 108, so don't really need more.

You put them on eBay and then retire to a private island on the money you will make.

The 108 bodykit is one they still show in stock. How about doing a 107 from it? Or a 114 if you can find some extra window sections perhaps?

Hi Dave,

Make some scratch built ends and turn them into either one of these:

https://www.railcar.co.uk/type/battery-multiple-unit/

one of these:

https://www.railcar.co.uk/type/derby-lightweight/

or one of these:

https://www.railcar.co.uk/type/derby-lightweight/ultrasonic-test-train

Some one will buy the spare cab ends.

Hi Martyn

The 108 has the wrong body profile for a 114 or a 107.

The Derby lightweights and the 108s had a continuous curve like a BR Mk1 (I am not sure if it is the same radius) but had there windows set low like a LMS coach.

The 114 and 107 (and the Derby suburban units) had a LMS profile with the windows set higher as on a BR coach. Very confusing :dontknow:

If you place a ruler on a photo of a blue livery 107 or 114 where the yellow meets the blue from the roof until about 3/4 of the way down it is straight then there is a tuck under. Do the same to a lightweight or 108 and there is nowhere straight for the ruler to line up with. :paint:

It is with this knowledge I know my two lightweight singles are wrong, along with the window spacing on the center seating bay, the incorrect under gubbins, bogies too close together and me making the cabs. :rtfm:

Must admit not too bothered by the wrong body profile. As I have already got a mostly complete 116 using replica suburban coaches. The profile my be wrong, both it does look most convincing. Comairng the windows to the DC 114 I have, the difference in height is not very noticeable .

Will have to have a good think of what to do with them.

The inclusion of a video of you dancing to any tune, good or bad, on your next running session would be a delight and inspiration to us all

Hi Jazzer

I have be banned three times in the past from RMweb, a video of me dancing would be a fourth and final ban. :banned:

Who in their right mind wants to see a old fat bald bloke wiggling his bum out of rhythm and with the added potential of him singing, and occasionally hitting the right note. By accident? :dancing:

Great sets of pics Buddy, and I've just spoken to Big John and Jeff and told them that the Station Forecourt is still the same bits of paper that were there when we visited, John was laughing his head off and sends his regards.

Hi Andy

Thank you. Next time you speak to John send him my regards and tell him when Covid is over if he and Binny want to come a play they are welcome.

The paper forecourt still serves its purpose until the builders arrive to put up the permanent structure in place.
