TEAMYAKIMA
And if that wasn't anal enough! This female figure originally wore a skirt and was looking side on to her left - but I wanted her looking straight ahead into a shop window - so I changed that skirt to trousers and cut her head off and replaced it with one from a spare unpainted figure. That photo got lost in the hosting move, but here she is finally on the layout ……….. Edited May 6, 2022 by TEAMYAKIMA
TEAMYAKIMA
OK, back to the man selling souvenirs in the hotel foyer...…………….. He started as a Preiser man with a pipe on a bicycle (or rather not on a bicycle) ……………….. He ended up sat at his table …………………. And on the layout ………………. 8
TEAMYAKIMA
Today I have been working on a new feature - one I have wanted to incorporate for several years but never had the time to experiment with it - well today I found the time...…………... Train approaching - passengers leave their seats and wait for the train to arrive ………………. Train departed ………….. passengers on train! 6

TEAMYAKIMA
Yesterday I spent going round the layout looking for damage caused by careless storage during the shed building/plastering/painting and the house move. Here are some 'before' and 'after' shots - apologies that some of the 'before' photos are rather poor - taken on my phone! This modified lamp post had the platform head broken off ………………….. 20 minutes later a replacement made and grafted on ………………………... Somehow this top corner window got removed from the hotel! Luckily I still had some spare frames in a drawer and some frosted 'glass' …. Something must have fallen to the 3rd floor balcony leaving a chip and exposing the original plastic colour - I could never match that brown weathering again ………... So a carpet hanging over the balcony is an easier option! 7
TEAMYAKIMA
I have spent the morning working on a coal lorry. Arrived yesterday, it's actually a MAN but looks typical of the trucks seen in China en masse at around 2004, but I am very unhappy with the coal load, the shape is all wrong and it sits very high, especially as I want to add some more realistic 'coal' on top. ………………. It's the batteries that force the load to be so high, they sit taller than the motor and also force the load to be very 'square' rather than realistically sloped...………. RMweb Premium Vecchio Posted September 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 19, 2019 MAN instead Chinese - Well I remember 15 years ago to see all types of European lorries in China. Normally a model which wasn't produced in Europe any more - they were taking a license and tools for little money and happily producing it for another 20 years. This may have changed now, you see already many busses manufactured (and designed) in China on European roads. Batteries: I am sure you find smaller ones - of course this will limit the running time. As you just purchased the lorry you do not know the running time with this set of batteries? They are NI-CD or NI-MH I suppose, means charging time may be quite long. Chrisr40
Hi, Could you make the sides of the lorry bed taller so the coal heap looked less obtrusive ? Chris
TEAMYAKIMA
The Bachmann box contained this - my 7th S12 caboose - and at 9am it looked like this …………………………. An hour or so later it looked like this ……………………….
TEAMYAKIMA
Back to the coal lorry...………... First of all there was a technical issue on RMweb last night so some of you would not have seen the photo of how the truck looked when delivered (note also the electronics on view)... So I lowered the batteries by cutting holes in the frame which they now sit in …………….. Here is a before and after shot ………………. So here is the new coal profile before I add the more realistic 'coal' load ……………...
TEAMYAKIMA
BTW here is my inspiration this was taken in 2013 when these blue trucks were quite rare, ten or fifteen years earlier and they were everywhere …………...

TEAMYAKIMA
With Fareham show coming up in 10 days I want the layout to look much more professional than at previous shows. So have ordered two more signs - one for each fiddle yard - plus one for the wall of my shed!
TEAMYAKIMA
OMG! Less than a week to go!! So much to do and so little time! Have decided that the industrial railway station needs an upgrade …. Am I completely mad?????
TEAMYAKIMA
The problem had been that the printed paving stone paper had lifted and bubbled up in several places - due I think to storing the baseboards in a VERY hot garage during our record breaking summer ………………... You can see in this photo how the paving has lifted along the platform edge. Edited September 28, 2019 by TEAMYAKIMA
TEAMYAKIMA
The main problem was around the depot area - so why did you just not re-do the depot area? I hear you ask. The secondary problem was colour matching the paving stone paper. It's a downloadable image that you then 'print at home' - and depending on which printer you use and what ink you get different results - as you can see here! The original version can just be seen in the far left of this photo with four attempts to match it laid out on top. Yes, that VERY grey version is from the same artwork as the other three!! So there was no way that I was going to be able to match the existing version on the layout and so everything had to be re-done. And yes I have kept sheets in case the same thing happens again and only a small piece needs replacing! RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted September 29, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 29, 2019 For the flooring, you could just replace an area with different coloured slabs, possibly with a temporary fence around representing a recently refurbished area. Or have a section dug up with a trench below. Overall though, looking really good.
TEAMYAKIMA
Worked on the layout 10.5 hours solid on Friday - good job I'm now semi-retired! Edited September 29, 2019 by TEAMYAKIMA
