TEAMYAKIMA
Have spent a considerable amount of time today with our backscene 'artist'. We have tried various options and he has taken one backscene section to try out our ideas in practice - he may even have it back tomorrow for appraisal. In the mean time this will be the inspiration of our new backscene ….. Edited March 1, 2020 by TEAMYAKIMA

RMweb Premium JimFin Posted March 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2, 2020 (edited) Maybe - more tonal variation in the orange tint, lighter at the top, darker as it fades to the horizon, not as extreme a fade as your inspiration but in that direction. I agree with JimFin regarding the tonal variation. One other thing to consider, and that is the lighting under which the layout is likely to be seen (at an exhibition), as opposed to the lighting we/you are viewing it in your workshop. Probably 'nitpicking' and difficult to assess (or for you to recreate), but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Great job though. Would like to get to 'Ally Pally' this time (not been for about 4 years), but now I have 'decamped' to Mid-Wales (from Dorset) it feels a little less likely unfortunately. Yes, Gordon and I agree. He will try to achieve that. 13 hours ago, steveNCB7754 said: Tne other thing to consider, and that is the lighting under which the layout is likely to be seen (at an exhibition), as opposed to the lighting we/you are viewing it in your workshop. We have deliberately not gone for overhead lighting and so it's a bit of 'pot luck' in that regard. 1
RMweb Premium Vecchio Posted March 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 4, 2020 one quick 2 pence opinion. The chimney between the two blocks of flats should rather be moved. It looks a little like "there is space so I do a chimney". If we see just the chimney top or only the smoke behind one of the buildings it is more realistic. Best regards Vecchio 1

TEAMYAKIMA
Another 11 hour day in the shed - 8am to 7pm! One big achievement was the new power box has arrived, courtesy of an old friend in Twickenham MRC. This new version has a 5 amp booster so hopefully no more power drop outs and it has fans and ventilation holes...………. And this new version has lights!! 7
TEAMYAKIMA
Dealing with random things before I go to work. One oversight was to glue the bridge down before we fitted the crash barrier underneath So glued four sections together and cut off all the 'pins' except the first and last …….. Hopefully I can get it to stay in place with superglue gell! Another issue - cycles - even in 2004 there were still millions of cycles in China and so we need a cycle park on the station. I know this one doesn't have handle bars, but it's only a trial run ….

TEAMYAKIMA
A new cameo at the front of the layout …………………………... The Chinese driver was too short to wash the windscreen ……………………….. 11
TEAMYAKIMA
Have been up early all week - still so much to do before Aly Paly! Some upgrades ……………... One of my team (Gordon) pointed out that empty lorries don't enter building sites - loaded lorries enter building sites. He also said that the advertising billboard was too small to be seen properly. Before...……….. After …………….
TEAMYAKIMA
Other new things …. Gordon was round to show me the latest version of the backscene he's working on …………..still a work in progress New Olympic posters to really set the scene ….. and 'yes' the yellow car has been replaced The truck stop is moving ahead ……………….
TEAMYAKIMA
Another upgrade. Two Wiking Austrian post office vans bought cheap on ebay - now one is Chinese! Back in the day this pale blue appeared to be the default colour of most Chinese trucks!

That's OK but I'm glad you think box vans as well - one of my team has been going on and on about 'more blue trucks' and as I needed to paint over the bright yellow and as I have a spray can of that blue I did it like that. These are the only two photos I can find at short notice - taken in 2013 and 2014 . At least one of them has no markings!! What did the blue signify? Ownership? Or just it was just the manufacturer's default colour scheme?
RMweb Gold SHMD Posted March 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13, 2020 These were taken in 2004 during the melon harvest. This road was the old slow road from ZhengZhou to KaiFeng. Since then they have opened new roads/highways and a high speed train link. The driving standards were quite frightening! Sorry about the hue but the taxi drive had tinted all his windows. (I think in an attempt to hold the thing together a little bit longer!) I couldn't find any pics of the "blue vans" - possibly because they weren't as interesting as the "opens". I'll keep looking. Theakerr
When I was there in 2006 and 8 a lot of the trucks were a drab military green, the same as a lot of the 2 unit Russian type OH panto-graph locomotives

This is sad after all the effort you put in. Any plans for future shows? Vecchio I share an operating team with Al Turner's 'BRIDGE AT REMAGEN' and we aim to do 6-8 shows a year between us. I was down for 3 shows this year and two of them have been cancelled AP and RAILEX - so only show left is Peterborough in December.
