TEAMYAKIMA
I thought you might like to see the an example of the 'real' and the 'imagined' shops .... First the 'imagined' ...... Then the 'real' ......
Jongudmund
Meanwhile back on topic ............ OMG! Have just ordered another 50 Bachmann air conditioners - all of which need to be filed down from OO to HO !! But Bachmann do HO models as well don't they? Do they not do HO accessories? TEAMYAKIMA
But Bachmann do HO models as well don't they? Do they not do HO accessories? I must admit that my post about filing down OO air conditioners down to HO was slightly tongue in cheek .... I do it mostly to give some variety in the shapes more than anything else. Before I started with this I did google air conditioers and didnt really dfdn't anything better than these Bachmann ones. If I was starting afresh I may have chosen to print off 'fronts' and stick them onto some plastic stip (using the same technique as the shop signs) using a photo like this.... The trouble is that I think either way would have looked OK on the model but mixing the two concepts would clash .... certainly in retrospect printing off fronts would have been cheaper than buying hundreds of the Bachmann castings. TEAMYAKIMA
Finally ! One of the 12 major buildings I'm working on is 'finished' ... except maybe for some touch up of the weathering when the building finally gets fitted to the layout..... New additions this morning .... A one legged beggar sitting outside the cafe where he knows 'rich' foreign tourists (railway photograghers) can ususally be found. One thing that attracts me to Chinese small towns is that you can find a shop selling industrial electric motors or pumps (or in this case cement mixers!) right next door to their equivalent of a convenience shop selling groceries .. a passing Chinese man is asking directions from the shop owner...
TEAMYAKIMA
One reason I cancelled my first show was because I wanted to experiment with better versions of what I had already achieved. This is the first 'better' set of window bars..... Now painted/weathered ....
RMweb Gold SHMD Posted January 10, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2017 Not only are they much better, they are superb. (But don't forget the rusty streaks at the wall mounting points!) Kev. ..who is very impressed..
Al.
It's all looking good, Paul. Look forward to seeing the building fixed to the layout and the street scenery develop. Al.

TEAMYAKIMA
It's not all good progress!! Had day off ..... decided to start by tidying modelling room as even I agree that it's a mess with half finished models everywhere - including the floor! Went in the modelling room.............. Looked around wondering where to start the tidy up .............. Foot just touched the latest building I'm working on.................. Which is not so much 1/2 relief as 3/4 relief .... which means it's pretty unstable................. Which means that it doesn't take much to topple it over .................... Which meant I then trod on it .............................. Luckily nothing tooooo serious ! Edited - have deleted the duplicate posting - so no more Groundhog Day, see Ian's comment below Edited January 18, 2017 by TEAMYAKIMA

Al.
I'm pleased it wasn't line of the buildings with the shops fitted. I hope the damage isn't too bad. Al.
TEAMYAKIMA
One positive .... another tenement is complete except for some toning/weathering when fitted permanently to layout. This is actually tenement #1 at the extreme lefthand end of the layout - no shops! The tenement I posted last week is actually tenement # 2 And have also just finished # 3 And all 3 together ... I might add a pavement to the l/h side of # 2 as it looks a bit odd without one Edited January 18, 2017 by TEAMYAKIMA
jonklein611
Wow! This made me feel like I was back in China! Time to take the CRH back to Shanghai! Awesome work!

TEAMYAKIMA
Two days off sick from work have allowed me more time to get back to what I enjoy - interiors. Done the last two in the 1970's apartments at the l/h front of the layout. These will be difficult to see when on the layout as the will be seen at an obtuse angle but I don't want to make it too easy for the viewer! To make it easier I have taken them from inside the building # 1 #2
TEAMYAKIMA
So at the front of the layout .... l/h side ..... there are three 1770/80's blocks of flats at 90 degrees to the tracks.. the last one I've been working on is in fact the middle one ..... All three are unceremoneously 'chopped' at the baseboard edge.... Here is #2 at the moment..... Here is the blanking end wall about to be fitted ....
TEAMYAKIMA
So 20 minutes later and the blank end piece is fitted. I've set it up on the bedroom dressing table with #2 on the left and # 3 on the right. And here is how you will view the trains ..... between the blocks of flats..... And here were blocks 1,2 & 3 (unfinished) on the layout at the summer test running session..... Edited January 25, 2017 by TEAMYAKIMA
TEAMYAKIMA
Here's a little detail I've been working on..... an ornate double security bar set It's basically two of the single usnits glued together but with two bars removed from the center so as to fit the window But the single one is itself modified (cut down in height) from how it comes ...... A lot of time and a lot of fiddling but worth it I think.
TEAMYAKIMA
Have finally got around to fitting the 'modern' supermarket into the 1950's tenements Unlit ....... Lit ..... Edited January 29, 2017 by TEAMYAKIMA
TEAMYAKIMA
The sign on the supermarket has proven to be very difficult ..... I have had several attempts using slightly different versions of the file as supplied by my good friend Grant Alderson from Twickenham & District MRC. Here are 3 completey different looking versions .... the top one has the problem that the colour intensity of the red varies across the sign but on the plus side it clearly shows the shaddow of the raised letters The middle one is on BEST PHOTO setting once the colour has been reworked digitally but now the yellow lettering is fuzzy and the shaddow has disappeared The last one shows the same image printed as just PHOTO quality Here is the version I originally chose (see my previous post) I tried various combinations of printer settings some that turned out far worse And so this is now the third and final version actually on the building
