thunderer08
Hello all, did the Park Royal coaches ever receive IR livery with a white stripe at waist level? Also which examples lasted longest, the mainline or suburban seated examples? Thanks in advance
colmflanagan
Hi, I'm not a real expert on this but don't recall ever seeing any in that later livery. Colm
islandbridgejct
I don't think they did. I think they were withdrawn when the Mk3 push pull units were introduced, which would have been a while after the formation of IR, and never got the new livery. My last recollection of them is that they were marshalled in sets of 4 or 5 with a Dutch van and 001 hauling, about 1984-87. I think I recall the Cravens having the double white, but the Park Royals still in use with just the single white. HTH. Alan
John M
Park Royals were in use on suburban, cross country and branch line services into the late 80s and possibly early 1990s. I travelled in trains made up of Park Royals over the Kerry Road and between Pearse and Drogheda in the late 1980s The MK3 Push Pulls were intended to take over Northern Line outer suburban services in 89 and I was quite disappointed when a 141 turned up with a rake of Park Royals during a visit home in Aug 89 rather than a 121 and one of the new Push pull sets.
