How so ? you mean those which have been reliveried ? or new forthcoming releases from Bachmann ? their autumn-releases were devoid of any new 90 when they could have seized the day and popped in a one or two easily.

No sign of any 90s in the Bachmann announcement then........

For all those wanting to see a fifth Bachmann Class 90, I am a tad surprised and maybe a dash of disappointed in light of Hornby's assault on the market place, with their various new models, personally speaking, its been quite a year for my Bachmann 90s and to think both my purse and bank manager will be glad there is no red or maroon skoda in the reveal is a peculiar moment - there is always next year ... and the tertiary industry that follows it will always be able to keep folk amused in the meantime, i know i have been so and some this last twelve months   :-)))))

Without wanting to sound like a turkey voting for Christmas I would have welcomed     A red / maroon / virgin version as they would have been so much easier to work with rather than having to do a complete respray every time. Oddities such as 036 in beastie ( or RFD) 034 in DRS  or even the euro skodas such as 028 did may appear in collectors club additions But limited scope for modellers. Suppose we will have to wait for 2021!

A Very small point, 90001 has the original grills re-instated, with 90002 expected to have them changed shortly (I actually prefer the later design!). I do agree that the triangle needs lowering a tad though and fattening out a touch.

(Not my photo - taken by Robin S Hunter)

Intercity (Locomotive Services Ltd) Class 90 90001

Much better with the original grills. Perhaps they could offer the same treatment to their HST and put the lighting arrangement back to the original format. (Albeit with LED’s or whatever they use these days).

Note how it has a 0.5mm thick lug that folds and sits into a hole within the body in each corner, thats as behind the grill is a void with the horns in, the grill is curved with the body, so can see how that may be a pain to glue in, and is possibly why Bachmann made it that way.

It may be better to have the retainers of the etch, be on the corners, rather than the middle so they can be used as lugs.

this particular one is being naughty with me, so tonight, I made it feel like what it is to be a Hornby class 90...

whilst a model I bought new with paper round money 3 decades ago gets to enjoy new wheels and a new pantograph, courtesy of the above 90 being naughty, and Herefords class 90 offer to weeks ago. (90042’s pantograph arm broke and wont ever lift again, so Ive glued it down on 90001 and am sourcing a replacement for 042 or part it out and get rid of it).

90001 before becoming “Wolf of Badenoch” and “Crown Point” used to be called “BBC Midlands Today”... the nameplates are as old as the loco, and still on original glue, I must have done a good job, it might be triggers broom but its my original one still.

For those interested in livery combos here's one from yesterday (whilst out for a lockdown compliant walk) on a northbound working to Felixstowe at Snivellers Footpath Crossing just south of Kelvedon on the GEML on the 403Q 0825 Crewe Bas Hall S.S.M. to Felixstowe North F.L.T. Due to the poor light I can't make out the loco numbers but think ther ex-AGA loco at the front is 90013 and the Freightliner probably 90044.

Although the FL Livery has numbers at both ends of the loco sides and on the cab end, they are all quite small.

Does anyone know if there are any suppliers who make spare buffers for freightliner class 90s / 86s etc - the sort of narrow stretched rectangular shape? Apologies for the poor description!

Hi, thanks for that. Sorry, wrong buffer type- I dont think I've explained very well! I'm after the type fitted to a lot of the freight variants once they had their buffing plates removed. The sort that are on Bachmann's Powehaul Freightliner class 90....

Hornby X6514 Sprung buffers for the class 67

X9399 (black shank) for the class 60 also look to be similar.

 Nice picture above.

not sure your project, I recently upgraded a Hornby Freightliner class 86 using class 66 buffers too. (These being non-sprung push fit).

There seems to be complete shortage of buffers out there - Hornby has been sold out for years - has any body seen any for sale?

Peter's spares at least have resorted to remanufacturing - I don't think they have yet done many of the 'modern' ones but buffers for many older Hornby and Lima models can be obtained from them

Hornby sprung buffers from classes 31,56,60 would be a most welcome return. Fingers crossed
