Graham Farish N announcements July 2014 - SECR birdcage stock and some monster Scenecraft!

Am I right in recalling that some Birdcage sets moved to other parts of the Southern as electrification extended through Kent? I have tried looking for allocation details this morning on Google but without success (must be typing in the wrong keywords).

I believe they turned up on the Redhill - Reading route.

Also the local routes between Tunbridge Wells and the Sussex Coast. By the time the Kent Coast electrifications were in full swing the displaced Maunsell stock on the mainline services were in turn condemning the Birdcage stock to the mercy of the scrapyard...

I believe they turned up on the Redhill - Reading route.

Yes indeed they did although technically the Redhill - Reading route was a South Eastern Section line as it was ex SECR.

They would generally be found on the South Eastern section and occasionally the Central section rather than much further afield

MK2As in blue/grey and NSE are very welcome, as is the MK1 works test train twin pack.

I hope we get to see some Trans-Pennine MK2As one day soon, too.

I agree, great to have coaches available in a sector livery. There just doesn't seem to be a first class coach in the Network SouthEast range to make a full train, only the Tourist opens & break vehicle...unless i've overlooked it  :scratchhead:

I'll be having a few of these anyway for my next layout :)

Cheers,

Mark

I've been told that livery samples for the Birdcages have been produced. Did anybody notice them at The N Gauge Show this weekend? Any photos ?

There were livery samples (very nice they were too) but I didn't take any photos.  I think there were LSWR (?) brown, Southern Railway green and British Railways crimson.

The photos don't really do them justice, the finish on the Southern Olive versions being utterly exquisite.

The C Class is also looking good, with some impressive backhead details:

It is a shame Bachmann didn't go for the lined SECR livery. Looking at the Southern Olive scheme I think they'd be more than capable of doing it justice.

They aren't cheap, but these are probably the finest items of coaching stock in N Gauge to date.

I reckon Farish have chosen unlined to match the liveries of the C and N Classes in the range. To go for lined the N class would be a bit too modern and the C would need full Wainwright livery. I'd have preferred lined but not complaining. RTR pre grouping coaches :)

As mentioned on the other thread, absolutely superb models in all respects. Probably the finest coaching stock available in N Gauge right now.
