Karhedron
Can I bump this question? I would be interested in a set if I can justify them on the Western Section. I believe they turned up on the Redhill - Reading route.
talisman56
Am I right in recalling that some Birdcage sets moved to other parts of the Southern as electrification extended through Kent? I have tried looking for allocation details this morning on Google but without success (must be typing in the wrong keywords). I believe they turned up on the Redhill - Reading route. Also the local routes between Tunbridge Wells and the Sussex Coast. By the time the Kent Coast electrifications were in full swing the displaced Maunsell stock on the mainline services were in turn condemning the Birdcage stock to the mercy of the scrapyard... Mod4
Please note I have split the discussion on the Dapol Maunsell's in N to a separate topic in the Dapol section of the forum (I was surprised there was not a topic for them already) it can be found here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/88448-Dapol-maunsell-coaches-in-n/
RMweb Gold Graham_Muz Posted July 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2014 I believe they turned up on the Redhill - Reading route. Yes indeed they did although technically the Redhill - Reading route was a South Eastern Section line as it was ex SECR. They would generally be found on the South Eastern section and occasionally the Central section rather than much further afield
1977joey
MK2As in blue/grey and NSE are very welcome, as is the MK1 works test train twin pack. I hope we get to see some Trans-Pennine MK2As one day soon, too. I agree, great to have coaches available in a sector livery. There just doesn't seem to be a first class coach in the Network SouthEast range to make a full train, only the Tourist opens & break vehicle...unless i've overlooked it I'll be having a few of these anyway for my next layout Cheers, Mark Edited August 1, 2014 by 1977joey
acko22
Ok then not a great offering in my opinion. Just seems that unless its steam there is no interest in modern northern railways should it be pre or post privatisation. But that's no real suprise
GNR Dave
I've been told that livery samples for the Birdcages have been produced. Did anybody notice them at The N Gauge Show this weekend? Any photos ?
johnlambert
I've been told that livery samples for the Birdcages have been produced. Did anybody notice them at The N Gauge Show this weekend? Any photos ? There were livery samples (very nice they were too) but I didn't take any photos. I think there were LSWR (?) brown, Southern Railway green and British Railways crimson. RMweb Gold TomE Posted September 9, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 9, 2018 (edited) From TINGS: The photos don't really do them justice, the finish on the Southern Olive versions being utterly exquisite. The C Class is also looking good, with some impressive backhead details: Tom. Edited September 9, 2018 by TomE
GNR Dave
Thanks for posting Tom. I was undecided due to the £150 price tag per three set, but they do look stunning, as does the C class. Definitely ordering a Southern set with a C class. The pre grouping combo will probably follow if the finances permit !
Tomsontour
Them birdcages look lovely! Look just the job on my reading to redhill planned layout, although maybe just one set at the price
RMweb Gold TomE Posted September 9, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 9, 2018 It is a shame Bachmann didn't go for the lined SECR livery. Looking at the Southern Olive scheme I think they'd be more than capable of doing it justice. They aren't cheap, but these are probably the finest items of coaching stock in N Gauge to date. Tom. Gareth Collier
I reckon Farish have chosen unlined to match the liveries of the C and N Classes in the range. To go for lined the N class would be a bit too modern and the C would need full Wainwright livery. I'd have preferred lined but not complaining. GNR Dave
Just had an email from Rails. My pre-ordered Birdcages (Southern olive and SECR brown ) are now in stock.
RMweb Gold TomE Posted April 14, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2019 As mentioned on the other thread, absolutely superb models in all respects. Probably the finest coaching stock available in N Gauge right now. Tom. 5
