Are the Red Imp models 3D printed, plastic moulded or that laser cut romark stuff? Ratio do a pack of N gauge pallets, sacks and barrels. They're printed but it's not the same stuff as when you get stuff from Shapeways, it's a bit waxy but absolutely fine for going behind the fence behind the railway. In one of my boxes I've got a car to park here, and there are a few other bits and bobs, but part of the yard is basically complete - there's just one more part, the goods shed, and then a bit of scrub to finish before Christmas. It's the biggest yet, I need to get the lower half finished by Christmas so it can be fitted during the annual possession. The slots on the top are for the upper part of the building which I'm certain won't be finished by Christmas. I blocked out the main section, then started at the back. I measured cars and played around on a bit of card to work out dimensions, then drew out a template and cut four sets of pillars. The bottom level isn't full width, but the other two are. I quite like how it looks like a carpark already. Here is how close it will be to the street I made in January. Town planning at it's finest in Gresby. The first coat of grey is currently drying on the concrete. Once I've finished painting the inside of the floors I can build the sides, and get cracking with the rest. Lots to do! Just using pva and foam scatter from friend of mine at the model tree shop and other bits I had lying around. . I just do it manually I find it more fun than static etc. The trees are not my hand I work they are also from the model tree shop. I found along time ago that despite many attempts me and tree making weren’t gonna work so it’s one area I accepted some outlay was worth it. I nipped down to Uckfield model show yesterday, great little show and managed to buy some bits I'd been after. I also managed a bit of work on the carpark / shopping centre: I finished painting the parking decks, I just need to make the sides and park some cars. Underneath the carpark theres a loading bay: There's a loading ramp for a lorry to dock with, but I'm not going to add a lorry. So far 107 cut out and I've just started detailing the first 20, they'll go at the front/the sides and the plain ones will go in the middle/at the back (the bottom level will just be a block)... Here are the first 20 painted, then I stuck doors on another 30: I've painted all of the fridges with acrylics, in one big batch, so after a few hours sticking the doors on and about 20 minutes painting I've got 50 detailed fridges: I'm definitely going need more than this, but they won't be detailed. By the end of the week I should have this end of the graveyard finished... Also today I made this: I couldn't remember if Id bought a pack of these or if I'd just imagined it, but the pack popped out in one of the boxes during the week. Dumped in the car park. No doubt he took more pictures than I did. The black layout end with the milk bottle is "Ashtown" - a club N-gauge layout making its debut at Cotgrave next April. Beyond (also black) is a layout that started off as "Yeaton" by Jeremy Burrows, now called "Newton Wharf" and aimed for completion in 2019. I didn’t take many pictures today (Not interesting ones anyway) Firstly, as I know I’ve been asked a few times before, here are some full length pictures: I’m always surprised at how big it looks... The main purpose of today’s mission was to have a word with the board joins in the fiddle yard. I had some problems running at Christmas so I thought it would be useful to fix them on a big solid floor. I found the most troublesome joins with a Dapol 66 and then with a Farish 66 - both with the front stuff fitted. The Farish 66 is more sensitive to bumps. I got the soldering iron and pliers onto quite a few of the joins and made the fiddleyard much better running. My only worry is that when I next set up the layout the levels will be slightly different and the effort will have been wasted. What I really need to do is sort out how the boards fit together and make the legs a bit more steady... With the fiddleyard working for the test locos I got some stock out: I brought with me my most troublesome trains. Here is the Freightliner coal train going through the station. It wasn’t a great runner, I need to sort the bogies and couplings. The good news is I found that this train will leave the fiddleyard from two sidings, most awkward trains will only leave from one... Here’s a fiddleyard line up of the three long trains I brought up with me. The coal containers did not behave at all, I need to get on with making them more freewheeling and sort out some more replacement couplings, they fell off the track quite a lot. The pipe train ran fine once I’d taken the unloaded wagon out of it. I also found out that this would only leave the fiddleyard from road three. This is a very heavy train, normally I’d run it with one of the Taylor (Lifelike) class 60, but it failed so I had to make do with a 66 (I need to take the body off and fix the drive-shafts with a blob of clear, like I did with my other one at Christmas - I’ll detail it a bit while I’ve got it on the desk) Not pictured here are the box of units I took up, I found that an original batch Dapol 156 would go round the sharp corners on my inner track but a later batch one won’t. Most odd. I also brought 16 grampus/rudd/clams with me, they all need a tiny bit of weight adding as they’re pretty quick to jump off the track. I found that these would run out of all fiddleyard roads on the outer circuit, which is greats as the other three I brought were much more fussy. It would have been ideal to have more of a running session but I only brought a few trays of stock with me, and it was beginning to get a bit chilly. I think I agreed to show it in 2019 - twice! It's going to be a busy year haha There's always going to be some fettling to do, I'm going to make sure I take a soldering iron with me at all times. I had the day off today so I treated myself to a busy afternoon at my desk: I'm pretty sure it's 15 years since I built this, other than repainting the underframe it hasn't needed any desk time. The rubber tube linking the motor to the bogies was slipping and the pipe train was too much for it - so I fixed it with some Klear and now it's fixed. Next up, when I got back from Newark there was a Hattons box waiting for me: I've wanted a new mini for a while - the Oxford one's ok (but I would have preferred a baby blue one) The main thing I did today was the fridge mountain. I wanted a path around the edge so I laid a strip of plastikard to mark it out and stick the fridges onto. Next I spread glue onto the path, then some weeds and some ballast (like the icecream van yard this is built on the yard part of Gresby goods shed) I put the more detailed fridges where they could be seen, with the older fridges (brown and white) at the back of the pile and the newer ones (white and grey) towards the front. Tried the tree for size... I learned one thing though: I'm going to need more fridges... Lots to do! Simon 7 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm all fridges out, but I do have a passable fridge mountain: I had to make some extras, and I cheated with the ones towards the back: Attention now turned to the other half of the 'fridge yard', I plotted out a concrete pad and a second pad to put a container on. The L shape at the edge is to stick more fridges onto. What self respecting fridge dump doesn't have a job lot of chillers rotting away in a corner? In hindsight I probably put a bit too much effort into the red chillers, but they're right at the front so it's not completely wasted... Here's how the fridge yard looks now, it needs more clutter, and I've got two more fridges to stick down, but it's pretty much done. 142 fridges...
