ben pez
Wondering if anyone can kindly help Im going to eventually need some dry stone walling on my layout of ais gill. Wondering which ready to plant stuff is the best? Javis or Hornby skaledale? Its going to have to follow the contours of hills,is one product better than the other for doing this? kandc_au
Have you considered making it yourself in situ? That way you follow the contour of the landform with no drama's. I used a spatula and das modelling clay. Have it in the form of a sausage and just cut bits off with the small spatula.....it is surprising how quick and easy it is to do. coachmann
I prefer Hornby Skaledale stone walling. The half-lap legs were sawn off so that the pieces could be glued together with thick PVA in situ while following ground contours. There are straight, curves and corners plus collapsed walls and can be used over and over again by simply cutting off the PVA and starting all over. mwrosebury2000
Don't forget to look at the area you are modelling, like many things dry stone walling styles vary across the UK. Street view of country roads might be a good place to see this. Mark
RMweb Premium uax6 Posted July 14, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2014 Check out Lord Lunesters Kirby Lunside thread, somewhere about 50-70 pages from the most recent he shows his home made dry stone walls. Much more realistic than any of the ready to plant stuff! It'll probably take you longer to find the post than to make the walls! Andy G Edit: Heres a link to the start of the walling discussion http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/53448-kirkby-luneside-fiddle-yard-complete/page-127 (so a little earlier than I thought!) Follow the thread and he does show you the method. Ag
