Is there any renovation work to do on the footbridge steps? The handrails look shiny & new, have the steps already been worked on?

I'm not certain at this stage, I'll try and find out. It would seem silly not too !

The handrails are original as are the steps. :)

Taken this evening in very bright sunlight which made it difficult with my iPhone camera but it'll give you an overview I hope.

I am guessing this temporary footbridge is a standard design as its way much higher than the original footbridge yet There isn't any chance overhead wires are going to be erected whilst the original footbridge is refurbished. I wonder how many people will actually use it as the road crossing is a much simpler option to get to the down platform for points towards Barny.

Apparently there's more!

I remember seeing this film at a special showing in Barnstaple (Queens Theatre), but can't remember when!

Great film!

Lego/ Mecanno call it what you will it's a standard design I've been informed by the guys on site. Overhead wires ? This is Crediton we're talking about, 'lectric's just reached 'ere my bird !

I've actually witnessed quite a few people using it and it's a worthy edition to the station, there is also one erected at Torquay Station whilst refurb works are being carried out FYI .

When I've been waiting on the Barnstaple platform (which is quite frequently) I see very few people using the road/level crossing, most preferring to use the bridge.

Looking at the photo's the track could do with some weeding!

Hoe ! Hoe ! Hoe!

Interesting photos there, looks like a stack of logs in the 2nd one; was there timber traffic from here too? 1987 was "the great storm" and I think I remember seeing there were extra trains to take away logs from fallen trees...

Or Sleepers. There are a few pics on the Cyberheritage site that show piles of sleepers at approximately that location although the piles are not as high as they appear in the above photo.

On the subject of the Cyberheritage site Rich, I don't know when you last visited but there have been more photos added in recent months.

Just found a presentation given at the Tarka Rail Association AGM about the new Great Western franchise & the intentions for the North Devon line. Some interesting stuff about the wider franchise as well. Intersting that the map on page 10 has "Okehampton East Parkway" as a "priority new station"....

It was great to travel on the North Devon line again this weekend. Still amazes me at the expense on putting up that tenporary footbridge to the now standard overhead wire clearance despite the level crossing next door. There's many a station that's lost its footbridge altogether on busier routes.

I will post some photos form the sunny Saturday which I took on the. Main camera but here are a few on the Okehampton branch taken yesterday with the iPad in much wetter conditions although there were a few sunny spells.

The preserved Thumper is in excellent condition

That's because it hasn't been formally 'handed back' by the contractors, which is due to happen next week, following an inspection.

Good afternoon one and all,

My first trip out since last Saturday (having spent the last 5 days in bed feeling pretty much unwell!) into Crediton and noted works are well advanced so I'm posting the following photographs taken this afternoon at about 15.00 showing the bridge and signal box basking in autumnal sunshine.

I'm informed that next Monday will be the "grand opening" for the footbridge and the temporary bridge span is to be removed on Sunday night, with the remainder being taken down in due course.

Hope this update is of interest ?
