RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted August 4, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 4, 2018 All signage for the spectator stand now fitted except for 1980s period adverts. The rear entrance portion has been separated for detailing work. I'm currently identifying which model figures can be modified for use on this module.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted August 7, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 7, 2018 This is a first draft of what's happening in the spectator stand during a mid-week training session. A guy in athletics gear (black and white) has a few moments' contemplation and overview of the track. Meanwhile a club official wearing a black jacket and grey trousers, and another mate are waving and trying to attract his attention. Some females are chatting with their backs to the front hoardings and two older-looking guys look on. I'll install yours truly somewhere on the stand sitting near the guy in athletics gear. RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted August 12, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 12, 2018 (edited) At last, I'm modelling yours truly in my most garish 1980s combination which I wore. A bright yellow shirt and dark turquoise trousers with tiny lighter turquoise speckles - I was mistaken once for a shop assistant when I wore that outfit! RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted August 13, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 13, 2018 I've glued down the spectator stand. Placed more people in the spectator stand, including yours truly walking behind the two seated guys on the left of the stand, and painted up several other athletes hanging around the clubhouse and toilets. I also included two standing from the club house's balcony and a yuppie outside the rail-side entrance on his mobile phone. It's now a matter of adding final details including adverts and am awaiting delivery of three 1980s era Oxford Diecast cars.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted August 23, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 23, 2018 Both modules are now specially boxed-up for storage and transit. I'm now waiting for replica Subbuteo adverts to arrive in the post and will undertake finishing touches over the bank holiday weekend.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted August 24, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 24, 2018 I declare the "Greenfields Jubilee Harriers" 1980s/90s module complete. This is the rail-side view of the club house and stand, with 1980s era vehicles. This is the athletics track-side of the club house and stand. I've modelled an "open meeting" scenario about 30 years ago. The replica Subbuteo advert stickers arrived today and have been stuck onto 10 thou sheets, which are removable to allow for different sponsored advertising to be on display. I also moved my model of yours truly (yellow shirt, dark turquoise trousers) to a more visible position. Some of my model athletes were made over 20 years ago from memories of seeing them in action for an earlier abortive project, including the tall, well-built guy wearing black and white striped kit (Shaftesbury Harriers) who's standing on his own in the stand, based on someone I knew at school who competed at a high level.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted September 1, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 1, 2018 Today I ordered extra Fleischmann Profi track pieces and Ratio SR concrete fencing online from Gaugemaster to build more modules. I'm assessing which module plan will be next on the list.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted September 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 8, 2018 I've decided on my next module to build. It's a mirror version of an earlier junction created and stored as a flatpack, but in typical "Exmouth Junction" Southern concrete style. It uses refurbished and repainted Hornby Dublo accessories and a Peco platform with Ratio concrete fencing. I haven't decided on a name for the station and signal box. RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted September 15, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 15, 2018 I've decided this module will represent a West Yorkshire (Metro) station late 90s/early 00s, it hasn't been assigned a name yet. Today I bought at the Shipley show a detailed and weathered Hornby Pacer in Northern Spirit livery.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted September 16, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 16, 2018 (edited) Work's progressing on the Southern Region module. The only station access is from the main road via the footbridge (Hornby-Dublo). In recognition of BR Southern Region's former green corporate image, the station will be called Greensgrove* and the signal box may be called Connaught's Sidings. (* = Left-over combination of former Greenfields and Westgrove schools. They merged to form Westfield) [Corrected due to wrong image originally uploaded; also better image substituted] Edited September 16, 2018 by gc4946

New OO modular layout 001.JPG Today I bought at the Shipley show a detailed and weathered Hornby Pacer in Northern Spirit livery. I'm naming the station Penda's Whin, based on elements of names found in east Leeds (Pendas Fields, Whinmoor)
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted September 19, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 19, 2018 I've ordered a custom station sign pack "Greensgrove" from Sankey Scenics. The station was opened under Southern Railway auspices and closed on Sunday 24 July 1977 due to low usage (in reality I left junior school) It had never been modernised with BR post-1965 corporate image signage and retained all its Southern Railway features until its very end. RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted September 22, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 22, 2018 I've concentrated on structures this week. However I haven't finished painting and glazing the signal box, nor added platform fittings pending delivery of Sankey Scenics' custom signs.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted September 29, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2018 (edited) Work's progressing on the platform and signal box. The corrugated iron platform shelter was nicked from a Wills station halt kit. I might have a "colour" theme on this module - I knew pupils whose surnames were Brown, Gray and White and am working on how to incorporate them into various features, if at all possible. RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted October 2, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2018 Work's begun on two brick-built structures created from Tri-ang and Hornby parts. I haven't decided which structures (or part thereof) will be named after Brown, Gray or White. There'll be a taxi/hire car office with parking, a café and a light engineering workshop. RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted October 11, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 11, 2018 The factory building will be called Gray's Marine Engineering, the smaller building will be divided to form Brown's Café and White's Taxis.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted October 13, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2018 I've changed my mind on incorporating structures named after Brown, Gray and White on my "Greensgrove" module. In the end they detracted from the pure "Exmouth Junction" Southern look that I wanted. However I've gone through my unfinished and leftover parts and will instead create a rail-connected engineering works, its name hasn't yet been decided. RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted October 13, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2018 The works will be set in the 1980s so I could use my old Triang-Hornby Freightliner containers and will be called MJG Engineering Limited. MJG Engineering Limited's traffic kept the line through the long-closed Greensgrove station viable long enough for a passenger service to be re-established from the mid-80s. RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted October 14, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 14, 2018 Provisional layout of MJG Engineering Ltd: Offices in small hipped roof building with ex-Freightliner containers pressed into use as extra storage at far end. Workshop in single-storey building located in the middle, materials storage and gatehouse at near end. Wagons propelled into works, company doesn't have its own loco. RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted October 20, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2018 Progress has been made on MJG Engineering's main workshop.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted October 20, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2018 Finalised position of various structures on MJG Engineering module. Gatehouse and entrance at siding's end, then materials storage shelter, workshop and finally offices next to where the wagons enter.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted October 28, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 28, 2018 (edited) I resumed work on the indoor arena. Due to lack of room, I'm only modelling the frontage and approach. It'll have its own board, 715 x 147 mm, so it butts up to another board containing a station or roadway. Fencing's modified Hornby girder bridge sides. Edited October 28, 2018 by gc4946
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted November 4, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 4, 2018 Progress has been a bit slower than usual ... but the arena's been named using wooden letters intended for Xmas cards, bought from Hobbycraft (usual disclaimer) Priory was the name of my secondary school, however the name isn't geographically restricted.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted November 10, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 10, 2018 Work resumed on enclosing MJG Engineering's works. I've used up surplus Ratio SR concrete fencing posts, pressed into use their GWR spear fencing and made up a wall from offcuts of styrene sheet, as well as painting the yard area.
RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted November 11, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 11, 2018 (edited) Materials being gathered for another module (715 x 297 mm) "Albion United FC" (working name) using Subbuteo and Triang-Hornby parts, together with a scratchbuilt set of turnstiles, also using up various fencing and other parts in stock.
