It's amazing what can be done with older items. Your work is always inspirational - well done. Many thanks Cravensdmufan. There’s a lot of satisfaction to be had from restoring and improving older models that, for their time, were pretty good. This one is as old, or even older, than me... And thanks also to Dasatcopthorne for starting this thread, which inspired me to do this. cravensdmufan
I always liked the Tri-ang Hornby ferry vans. Here's mine - not detailed like Daruis' or Barry's vans, but here's what I attempted a couple of years ago; weathered just by using Tamiya powders (used the white one to fade the paintwork) and fitting smaller wheels to lower the height. But now seeing what you guys have done, I think I'll have a better go at it. Especially now the Realtec transfers are available. Another job for the "to do" list! 6

BernardTPM
Interesting - that has the 'intermediate' style of lettering using 'Transport' typeface but the revised 'Rail' instead of 'Railways'. The real things showed a lot of variation in this respect.

steve1
Here’s another contribution. I have been working on this trio on and off (mostly off!) for over 30 years. A lot of the work was done on DEMU demo stands. I built one door from scratch before I realised that all I needed to do to lose the indented printing, all I had to do was use the other side... steve 13

w124bob
Any suggestions for replacement wheels? I seem to recall older Hornby wagons have an odd axle length.

I seem to recall older Hornby wagons have an odd axle length. I used Hornby 12.6mm diameter metal 3 hole disc wheels - the ones that come in packs of 10 (R8097). Not sure if these are truly accurate but to me they give the right look. They were a straight swap for the original plastic wheels. The prototype had 1 metre (3'3") wheels, so 13 mm is pretty close; certainly closer than 12 mm or14 mm. http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/BRBDocuments/BRFreight1Issue.pdf 1

RMweb Premium Northmoor Posted October 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2020 I've got to tag this thread for future guidance; my couple of "Bargain find" VIX Ferry Vans have been waiting for years for just his sort of upgrade. 1
jonhall
A quicky project at the weekend. I took all the vent panels out and replaced with plasticard, and a few etched windows. this one has definitely ended its international career.
